What cliffhanger ending did Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 leave us on? Here is an explanation of our understanding of the ending.

Spider-Man 2 had several endings after the final boss fight. It left us with some questions that Insomniac Games will probably answer in their third Spider-Man installment. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we will be getting any DLC for the game despite the hype around its PC port. So, let’s try to understand the ending just for our own peace of mind.

There isn’t just one ending to this game. There are three primary endings that show us what turn the story could take. We also have a bonus ending explanation that you need to stick around for till the end!

One ending that we won’t be “explaining” is the one immediately after the boss fight against Venom. There is nothing to explain. Harry Osborn died to save the rest of the world, and Peter Parker was once more left without his best friend.

All Spider-Man fans know that it’s never a good life for this hero. Despite being an absolute icon in the Marvel Universe, he just can’t catch a break. Considering all the events that took place canonically before the events of the 2018 Marvel’s Spider-Man game, we can say that Peter Parker has had a long, sacrificial run. But does the ending of Spider-Man 2 finally give him a break?

For now, yes! He will finally get to focus on himself and his relationship with MJ. The ending after Harry’s demise showed us Miles Morales taking full charge of the spider-business as New York’s one and only Spider-Man. Don’t worry, though. I believe that he will be back to wrap things up in the “final chapter.” But for now, it is time for him to take the back seat while Miles handles things in the meantime.

Miles Morales Might Have To Become the “Tutor” Himself

Miles Morales is now officially the only Spider-Man in New York. He and Hailey also seem to be on the same page regarding their mutual liking for each other. After settling down all the hunter and symbiote drama, it looks like he also finally had the time to catch up with his mother.

The second primary ending in Spider-Man 2 shows him confessing his feelings for Hailey. This is when he meets his mother’s date, Albert. Albert then introduces all of them to his daughter Cindy. This is where things get interesting. Cindy Moon in the comics is the hero Silk.

In one of the universes, she gets her powers from the same radioactive spider as Peter Parker’s. She also acts as a vigilante in New York. So far, Insomniac did nothing to establish her, meaning she is either too good at her job, is being overlooked due to the other two Spider-Men, hasn’t used her powers yet, or hasn’t received these powers at all.

Peter used the word “tutoring” to refer to his mentoring time with Miles. Looks like Miles will have to become a teacher himself.

Setting Up the Main Villain

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 focused on “second chances.” This was evident through the Mysterium side missions, the Coney Island mission where Tombstone was working, and the emotionally moving Marko’s Memories. So, does Otto Octavius’ second run as Doctor Octopus really make sense? Well, I think he will be back, but not as his previous gimmick.

In the comics, Otto transfers his consciousness into Peter’s body, makes him a prisoner in his own body, and becomes the Superior Spider-Man. I think this can serve as one of the storylines in the next installment because of how personal it will be. Not to forget that Norman Osborn will also likely be surfacing as the Green Goblin!

Bonus Ending That You Probably Missed

There was a side mission called The Flame. It was all about finding The Flame, a criminal behind the fatal cult running loose on the streets of NYC. Turns out, The Flame had been a long-running criminal in the city. Yuri Watanabe, who now goes by the vigilante name Wraith, has been on his trail from even before she left her cop badge behind.

Towards the endgame, the last mission in this questline reveals that The Flame has gone by several previous aliases and was also known as Cletus Kasady at some point. This is the same Cletus who bonds with a symbiote to call themselves Carnage. In the last mission, Cletus even gets hold of the final symbiote sample from an Oscorp train escorting confidential goods. The symbiote in the vial shows red color, suggesting that we might see a bit of “carnage” in the upcoming game!
