Spider-Man is arguably the most iconic superhero of all time. As such, developers have made multiple games through different generations of gaming that star the webslinger. While there have been differences in quality, Spider-Man still has some amazing games that still hold up to this day. If you are looking for some great games that embody the webslinger, then here are the 5 best Spider-Man games.

1. Marvel’s Spider-Man

Insomniac Games’ first-ever shot at the Spider-Man IP resulted in arguably their best game yet, and the best Spider-Man game. The game encompasses everything that makes a Spider-Man story good. From showcasing Peter Parker’s struggle between his personal life and being Spider-Man, to struggling with his relationships, it has it all. Additionally, the Sinister Six’s presence in this game makes for a very entertaining experience.

Marvel’s Spider-Man also has a great combat system, featuring a counter system similar to the Arkham games. Additionally, it is possible to unlock gadgets and other skills that enhance the gameplay further.

2. Spider-Man 2

Before the release of Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, Spider-Man 2 was widely praised as the best Spider-Man game. The main reason is the swinging, as this game featured the greatest take on the webswinging mechanic we have ever seen. It felt satisfying and natural, and we only got something as good as Spider-Man 2’s swinging with Insomniac’s take on the IP.

Additionally, Spider-Man 2 adapts the events of Sam Raimi’s movie, with the actors reprising their roles as voice actors.

3. Ultimate Spider-Man

Ultimate Spider-Man is one of those PlayStation 2 games that still looks gorgeous even now, thanks to its art style. It tries to capture the iconic comic book aesthetic of Spider-Man, and succeeds in doing so. The story is based on the comics and features multiple playable characters such as Venom and Carnage. Additionally, other fan favorites such as the Human Torch and Wolverine are also present in this universe.

All in all, the game’s aesthetic and refreshing storyline make it one of the best Spider-Man games that has aged like fine wine.

4. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is the first Spider-Man game that delves into the concept of the multiverse. The game features four different playable characters, giving them all unique missions that fit their aesthetic. For example, Spider-Man Noir’s gameplay consists of stealth sections in an early 1900s setting, while Spider-Man 2099 is based in a futuristic sci-fi setting.

It is easily one of the most fun and engaging Spider-Man games, as it constantly spices up the experience by switching between different playable characters.

5. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows is one of the rare instances in which the developers created their own Spidey story. As a result, Web of Shadows is full of creative missions and the inclusion of characters that make the story much more enjoyable. The game also provides the option to pick between good and evil choices in the story, which in turn completely alter the events of the game.

These decisions will eventually affect the game’s ending, adding a lot of replayability. Additionally, the game also introduces some unique characters, such as when the Symbiote takes over Wolverine, leading to a great boss fight against him. All in all, this is easily one of the greatest Spider-Man games of all time.
