How To Find and Defeat Asari Nobutane in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Similar to the Marume Nagayoshi mission, before you can go on the hunt for Asari Nobutane, you will first have to start the Nobutsuna’s Students side quest. You can do so by going to Nobutsuna Sensei’s house in southwestern Azuchi as Yasuke. Then, speak to the old teacher, and that should start the questline.

Asari Nobutane will be the second disciple that you must defeat. However, you will have to find her first. To do that, you must travel to the Kii Region in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Then, go to Negoroji, and once you are in the city, head towards the south of Monk Quarters and east of Gato Guard Post.

Help The Teppo Merchant

Once you reach the blue objective marker, you will find a teppo merchant being interrogated by two samurai. When you speak to him, the conversation will quickly lead to a confrontation between Yasuke and the soldiers. After you have defeated them, the merchant will tell you that a ronin is practicing his teppo at a bamboo grove nearby. After this, the objective will change to “Duel Asari Nobutane.”

Your target will be in the bamboo grove directly south of the Negoroji Kakurega. Once you reach it, you will see a samurai getting shot by Asari. After that, you can simply walk up to him and speak to him. During this conversation, Asari Nobutane will tell Yasuke about his past in brief. But don’t worry, because shortly after, Yasuke will say that he wants to learn Asari’s way. Then, after a cutscene, they will engage in a duel.

However, this fight will not be your typical boss fight where the two participants engage in close combat. Instead, this will be a test of your aim and focus. Asari will hide in bamboo trees and shoot his teppo at you from there. In this situation, you must closely observe where the bullet and Asari’s voice are coming from and shoot back at them. In addition to that, when you put your crosshair on your target, it will change to red, which is a great indication in the dark that you are aiming at the right place.

Additionally, Asari won’t just stop there; he will use bombs and constantly change his cover. He will also change his offensive approach and run at you with the intention of doing some quick damage. In this particular situation, you must listen carefully to Asari’s incoming footsteps and dodge at the appropriate time to avoid damage. Furthermore, you can also look at the hit indicator to know that an attack is incoming.

This will be the entire pattern of the duel. As we said earlier, it is a test of your focus. Also, we recommend that you stock up on some health items because, during the early stages of the fight, you might fail to avoid damage. Other than that, stay alert—it will be mostly dark during the fight, so rely on the sound of gunshots, footsteps, and Asari’s voice. Don’t worry about ammo because you will find plenty lying around the area. So, keep shooting him and dodging his attacks until his health bar hits zero. Once it does, you will win the duel.
