The new meta knockout Pokemon is Raging Bolt Ex, and this guide shows the Deck Guide, Deck List, and how to play in Pokemon TCG!
This Pokemon Deck guide was made for standard edition during the Twilight Masquerade expansion.
Raging Bolt Ex Deck Guide for Pokemon TCG
Raging Bolt ex in Pokemon TCG is considered the best knockout card in the game. When introduced in Temporal Forces, Raging Bolt ex was not considered a meta deck. However, with the introduction to Twilight Masquerade in May of 2024, the combination of Teal Mask Ogerpon and other cards brings this back as one of the best decks in all of Pokemon TCG. Able to power up on turn one and knock out Charizard ex and Dragapult ex, Raging Bolt ex is now back as one of the best Pokemon to build.
What makes Raging Bolt ex so effective is using bench Pokemon like Teal Mask Ogerpon to flood your bench with energy. You purposefully discard energy with Radiant Greninja, Ultra Ball, and Earthen Vessel, only to feed it to Raging Bolt ex via Professor Sada’s Vitality. Your drawing cards come from Teal Mask Ogerpon ex, which accelerates energy and allows you to draw a card! Lastly, you use Squawkability ex to get a flood of cards on turn one, ensuring a good start.
We will go through the Raging Bolt Ex decklist, a guide on how to play it, and the crucial cards. Let’s first show you the deck list so you understand the premise behind the Pokemon TCG: Raging Bolt Ex Deck Guide.

Key Cards in Raging Bolt Ex Pokemon TCG Deck
Below are the most essential key cards in the Teal Mask Ogerpon ex Deck:
- Raging Bolt ex – a knockout Pokemon you want in active position on turn one.
- Teal Mask Ogerpon ex – Pokemon used to feed energy to Raging Bolt ex and draw cards.
- Radiant Greninja – this Pokemon intentionally discards energy to draw cards, then attaches from discard via supporter.
- Professor Sada’s Vitality – use to attach lighting or fighting energy to Raging Bolt ex and accelerate its energy.
- Unfair Stamp – hard counter to enemies that knock out your Raging Bolt ex or any other Pokemon.
Raging Bolt ex
Raging Bolt ex Features in Pokemon TCG:
- Pokémon: Ex
- Type: Dragon
- HP: 240
- Burst Roar: 1x colorless energy – Discard your hand and draw 6 cards.
- Bellowing Thunder: 70× You may discard any amount of Basic Energy from your Pokémon. This attack does 70 damage for each card you discard in this way.
- Pokémon ex rule: When your Pokémon ex is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.
- Weakness: none
- Resistance: none
- Retreat Cost: 3x colorless energy
- Set: Temporal Forces 123/162 Double Rare
Aim to have Raging Bolt ex in your active position if you go second on turn one, with another Raging Bolt ex on your bench. Additionally, ensure you have Radiant Greninja or Squawkabilly alongside two Teal Mask Ogerpon ex on your bench. You want to use Greninja or Squak to discard energy like Fighting and Lighting for Professor Sada’s Research on turn one. If you have two Ancient Raging Bolt ex, this will help you get a powerful attach off-going second turn one. If your hand is terrible, discard it with one energy via the Burst Roar ability.
The main issue with Raging Bolt ex is its retreat cost of three. Once you get it into the active position, unless it’s moved with Boss’s Order’s likely to stay there. Moreover, we don’t have a lot of card swapping potential so keep on powering up your bench and another Raging Bolt ex. When an enemy has enough power to knock out your Raging Bolt ex, you’ll just swap another one in with 290 HP via Bravery Charm.
When you discard energy from Raging Bolt ex, always pick bench Pokemon when possible. The only time we don’t recommend this is if you know Raging Bolt ex will die on the next turn.
Teal Mask Ogerpon ex
Teal Mask Ogerpon ex Features in Pokemon TCG:
- Pokémon: Ex
- Type: Grass
- HP: 210
- Teal Dance: Once during your turn, you may attach a Basic Grass Energy card from your hand to this Pokémon. If you attached Energy to a Pokémon in this way, draw a card.
- Myriad Leaf Shower: 30+ for 3x grass energy. This attack does 30 more damage for each Energy attached to both Active Pokémon.
- Pokémon ex rule:
- Weakness: When your Pokémon ex is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.
- Resistance: None
- Retreat Cost: 1x Colorless Energy
- Set: Twilight Masquerade 25/167 Double Rare
The Teal Mask Ogerpon ex Pokemon is a versatile card that excels in three key areas: accelerating energy with Teal Dance, enhancing draw power with Teal Dance, and dealing damage with Myriad Leaf Shower. Primarily, you’ll use this card in this Pokemon TCG Deck to feed energy to Raging Bolt ex. Additionally, with a low retreat cost of just one, you can easily move Ogerpon ex out of the active spot and quickly power it up again.
Aim to have two Teal Mask Ogerpon ex cards on your bench. You can power up each with one Grass energy per turn, ensuring a steady energy flow. While you won’t be able to attack on your first turn if you go second, having Ogerpon ex ready is beneficial when Raging Bolt ex is not yet powered up. Manually attach one energy if you need to use Myriad Leaf Shower.
Starting with Ogerpon ex in your active spot is manageable due to its low retreat cost, allowing you to reposition easily and keep the energy acceleration going. When facing a fully powered Iron Hands ex, a Teal Mask Ogerpon ex with three or four energy attached is an effective counter.
Radiant Greninja
Radiant Greninja Features in Pokemon TCG:
- Pokémon: Radiant
- Type: Water
- HP: 130
- Concealed Cards: You must discard an Energy card from your hand in order to use this Ability. Once during your turn, you may draw 2 cards.
- Moonlight Shuriken: Discard 2 Energy from this Pokémon. This attack does 90 damage to 2 of your opponent’s Pokémon. (Don’t apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.)
- Weakness Lighting x2
- Resistance: None
- Retreat Cost: 1x Colorless Energy
- Set: Paldea Evolved 60/193 Rare
To draw cards, Radiant Greninja is a staple in Pokémon Standard gameplay. It allows you to discard and draw a card, making it a must-have for weak hands with limited cards. However, don’t overdo it by drawing; you want to keep mostly energy in your hand. Your main goal is to get this card on your bench via a Nest Ball. Use Fighting or Lighting energy discard to combo with Professor Sada’s Vitality. We won’t have any water damage so attacking is out the picture, and you can sacrifice this Pokemon to active slot once Raging Bolt ex is powered up.
Professor Sada’s Vitality
Professor Sada’s Vitality Features in Pokemon TCG:
- Trainer: Supporter
- Choose up to 2 of your Ancient Pokémon and attach a Basic Energy card from your discard pile to each of them. If you attached any Energy in this way, draw 3 cards.
- Set: Paradox Rift170/182 Uncommon
The key to effectively using Professor Sada’s Vitality is discarding the right energy on turn one. To achieve this, use Radiant Greninja, Squawkabilly ex, Ultra Ball, and Earthen Vessel. You can only attach energy to ancient Pokemon, but can do it to two. Therefore, always look to have one Raging Bolt ex or Sandy Shocks ex on your bench. This gives you two energy, plus attaching one manually to your active Raging Bolt ex allows an attack on turn one if you go second.
Moreover, if you feed your bench with Teal Mask Ogerpon ex grass energy, look to discard those first with Raging Bolt ex.
Unfair Stamp
Unfair Stamp Features in Pokemon TCG:
- Trainer: Item
- You can use this card only if any of your Pokémon were Knocked Out during your opponent’s last turn. Each player shuffles their hand into their deck. Then, you draw 5 cards, and your opponent draws 2 cards.
- Set: Twilight Masquerade 165/167 ACE SPEC rare
The Unfair Stamp card is an ACE Spec card, so you can only have one in your deck. We prefer this to any other because once Raging Bolt ex gets into the active spot, it will be hard to counter it’s damage. Even if you take a knockout, Raging Bolt ex will return and take out their powered-up Pokemon.
Unfair Stamp is like an empowered Iono; if they take out a Raging Bolt ex, they use this to counter their hand completely. Likely, you will fill up with a support card and power up another with Profesor’s Sada Research. Make sure to use Pal Pad to retrieve Sada, as it’s your main tool for accelerating Raging Bolt ex.
How to Play Raging Bolt Ex – Deck Guide
To maximize the potential of Raging Bolt ex, your primary goal is to accelerate the energy attachment for Raging Bolt ex as quickly as possible, ideally on your first turn, especially if you go second. Here’s how to effectively execute this strategy:
- Turn One, Going Second:
- Discard Energy Efficiently: Use Radiant Grenninja, Ultra Ball, or Earthen Vessel to fill up your discard with Lighting or Fighting Energy. This will facilitate Professor Sada’s research support in accelerating Raging Bolt ex-energy.
- Set Up Your Bench: Fill your bench with multiple Teal Mask Ogerpon ex and Radiant Greninja to prepare for future turns.
- Energy Management:
- Backup Plan: Always have a backup Raging Bolt ex on the bench to prepare for potential knockouts.
- Equip Bravery Charm: Place a Bravery Charm on your active Pokémon to protect it from early knockouts, especially Raging Bolt Ex.
- Executing Attacks:
- Powering Up Raging Bolt ex: Aim to fully power up Raging Bolt ex, which can often be achieved by the end of your first turn.
- Go for Knockouts: Once powered up, focus on knocking out your opponent’s Pokémon. Discard energy from your bench Pokémon if needed to maintain pressure.
- Managing Weaknesses:
- Prize Card Disadvantage: Be aware that you may be at a disadvantage with lower prize cards.
- Countering Iono or Unfair Stamp: If you deplete your energy resources to take down a strong opponent like Charizard Ex, anticipate a counter with cards like Iono. To mitigate this, ensure your bench is well-powered and avoid overextending your energy resources.
By carefully managing your energy and bench setup and preparing for potential counters, you can effectively leverage the strengths of Teal Mask Ogerpon ex and Raging Bolt ex to dominate your matches.
Sample Hand with Raging Bolt Ex
With a sample hand playing Raging Bolt ex in Pokemon TCG, I drew the following cards:
- 1x Raging Bolt ex
- 1x Teal Mask Ogerpon ex
- 1x Iono
- 1x Super Rod
- 1x Bug Catching Set
- 1x Bravery Charm
- 1x Grass Energy
Going on the second turn, I want to select Raging Bolt ex in the active spot and put a Bravery charm item on it. This will boost the Pokemon to 290 HP and likely take multiple turns for an enemy to knock it out. Next, set up Ogerpon on the back line and feed it grass energy with the ability to draw a card. Use the Bug Catching Set to draw another teal and grass and draw another card.
At this point, I drew a Pokegear I would normally use for Sada. However, I have no method for discarding a card; therefore, I use Iono to refresh my hand, going second on turn one. I gained an Earthen Vessel, which I use to discard a Lighting and attach a Fighting on Raging Bolt ex. Unfortunately, I couldn’t power it up on turn one, but our back line is solid, so let’s look at turn two.
Turn Two
Turn two, the enemy Iono me gave me much better cards, including Sada. Squak is useless at this point and can be discarded to generate more energy for the Earthen Vessel. We want to feed forest energy to Orgerpon and power up Raging Bolt ex. I drew an additional Earthen Vessel to discard a Fighting Energy. Now I have two energy in my discard pile, two Raging Bolt ex, and it is perfect to use Sada.
Once that’s done, more energy floods the back line, and my hand is full with nothing in my discard pile of notes. Raging Bolt is active, and the bench is powered with the ability to do over 600 damage. I also have energy retrieval in my hand to quickly regain the grass energy I would discard for damage. even if they somehow knocked out the active pokemon, the bench Raging Bolt ex would come in, and I’d lay another one from my hand on the bench.
Even an average-looking hand can get you down to 20 cards with Raging Bolt ex, making it one of the best in Pokemon TCG. Next, you can automatically learn how to add this entire setup to your card game. Thanks for reading the Pokemon TCG Raging Bolt Ex Deck Guide and Deck List.
