He is a highly valued and trusted captain who reports directly to Vlaakith herself.

Finding Kith’rak Voss in Baldur’s Gate 3
You can first encounter Kith’rak Voss in Act 1, near the Mountain Pass. If you travel west from Waukeen’s Rest you’ll find a tall bridge structure and looking down to the north you’ll see a couple of red dragons and a group of Githyanki soldiers. Voss is down below with them, overseeing the troops in the search for the Astral Prism. Approaching them can be risky, depending on your level. These Githyanki are strong and deadly foes if you are not at least a Level 3. It’s possible to talk your way out of this confrontation, but you’ll have to pass some challenging dialogue difficulty checks.
Significantly, you can collect an incredibly strong sword from Voss here in Act 1 if you leave Lae’zel out of your active party. The Silver Sword of the Astral Plane normally wouldn’t be available until Act 3. However, if you’re Level 3, have one character with the Command spell, and are willing to save and reload as needed, you can claim this fantastic end-game weapon very early on.
No matter if you initiate a fight or attempt to approach, at this point in the game Voss will take his leave and command his soldiers to kill you. Voss will fly away on his dragon, and you won’t see him again until you progress far enough in the story to trigger a scene where he visits you at camp.
Choosing to Side with Kith’rak Voss in Baldur’s Gate 3
Voss in Late Act 1
Following your visit to Crèche Y’llek and your discoveries during the Discover the Artefact’s Secrets quest, Kith’rak Voss will visit your camp during your next Long Rest. He will appeal to you and Lae’zel, saying that now that you’ve directly encountered Vlaakith and experienced her betrayal you must begin to see she cannot be trusted. Furthermore, Voss goes even further, stating that he is secretly opposing the Lich Queen and he asks for your support.
Here is where the first critical decision about siding with Kith’rak Voss occurs. If you are willing to listen to him, you can convince Lae’zel to hear him out. Voss will request that you meet him at Sharess’ Caress just outside of Baldur’s Gate.
However, you can also choose not to trust him, and urging Lae’zel to kill him as a traitor will trigger a mini-boss fight. If you kill Voss here, this is another opportunity to gain the Silver Sword of the Astral Plane. Additionally, if you already acquired it in Act 2, then you can loot Voss’ Silver Sword from him instead. Finally, he will also carry a ‘Letter to Voss’ on his person. If you read it, then it keeps the questline to Sharess’ Caress potentially open, if you wish to follow up on it.
Voss in Act 3
Sharess’ Caress is just outside of the Wrym’s Rock Fortress, far to the north of the Rivington area where you start Act 3. Inside, you’ll need to go up to the second floor and onto the outside balcony. Look for the door at the far west end that’s labeled as the ‘Devil’s Den’. Inside, you’ll find Kith’rak Voss attempting to bargain with Raphael. However, the cambion has no interest in anything the Githyanki has. Voss entreats you to make the deal and speak with him after.
Speak to Raphael and he will offer you the Orphic Hammer, which will help you defeat the Netherbrain. In exchange, he wants the Crown of Karsus, which you will give him after the Netherbrain’s defeat. You can take the deal to immediately get the Hammer, or refuse but find your way into the House of Hope to steal it for yourself. We highly recommend finding your way into the House of Hope regardless, because it is a treasure trove of valuable loot.
After you have the Hammer, you can find Voss down in the Lower City Sewers where he waits to hear from you. As thanks, he will reward you with the Silver Sword of the Astral Plane or Voss’ Silver Sword.
Consequences of Siding with Kith’rak Voss in Baldur’s Gate 3
Choosing to side with Kith’rak Voss in Baldur’s Gate 3 implies that you will free Orpheus after you discover a way back into the Astral Prism. However, that is a problem that won’t be easy to solve. When you tell Voss that you have the Hammer, the Emperor speaks and makes it clear he will not be letting you in. The Emperor does not want you to free the Prince and nothing you say can convince him. Don’t try to tackle this problem head-on, but continue playing through Act 3. Eventually, main story events will automatically pull you back into the Prism.
However, at this moment you can still change your mind about freeing Orpheus. If you find the Emperor’s arguments convincing, then you can leave Orpheus to his fate. Voss will be infuriated with you but he can be Persuaded or Deceived (30 DC) into standing down. Moreover, he agrees to help you defeat the Netherbrain. But after the bigger threat is gone, he vows to hunt you down. This doesn’t play out as a consequence directly in the game, however.
On the other hand, if you return with a free Orpheus, Voss will be overjoyed and thank you profusely. He will have already given you his sword as a reward earlier, so at this point, you will simply earn his support as an ally. During the final battle, you can call on Voss and his red dragon Qudenos. The dragon will cast Kith’raki Inferno, and breathe a wall of fire onto the battlefield that deals 5d8 Fire damage to anyone within its radius.
