Avowed ends with a fight against Inquisitor Lodwyn. She is the final boss of the game. Although players have faced her once before, this boss fight is much more difficult. There are phases in this fight that you need to pay attention to so you can successfully adapt to Lodwyn’s attacks.

While there is no clear demarcation that sets these phases apart, her attacks tell us that we may have entered a new phase. Keeping that in mind, we will explore her attacks through three phases and teach you how to counter each one of them.

The First Phase

It all starts when you pay the final boss a visit, and she reminds you of what happened when you stood in her way last time. However, ignoring her threats, you should charge into battle anyway because that’s how you will know that you are now stronger than the final boss.

The first phase largely features only close-combat mechanics. Lodwyn will rush at you with her sword. So, you will find that the best tactic here would be to dodge, block, and parry your way into close combat. I found it to be an effective technique against the ruthless boss. However, don’t shy away from sneaking in ranged attacks in between either.

A two-handed weapon will also help you at close range. If you are playing up close, make sure to dodge her attacks. It is pretty easy to do so because she is quite slow at this phase. Once her health has dropped to half, she will kneel and unleash a beacon, granting her full health again. This triggers the next phase immediately.

The Second Phase

Once she is fully healed from the damage you dealt in the first phase, Lodwyn will change her tactics. Now, you will find that she attacks you with a completely different move set. Her attacks will now include a ranged arsenal of fireballs and rocks. All you can do is dodge these attacks. Especially when it’s a fireball, try getting as far as possible, and don’t stand in one place for too long. When hit by a fireball, Envoy will keep burning for a while.

You may also face her Shadow Summons in this phase. She may or may not summon all of them at once. You don’t have to prioritize these attackers right away, but they are definitely a nuisance to deal with. When she is summoning these shadow minions, you are free to attack her as much as you can. The best way to deal damage to Inquisitor Lodwyn in this second phase in Avowed is by using firearms or any ranged attack.

Wrapping It Up

Lastly, you will find that Lodwyn will summon two Pristine Maegfolc. I haven’t found her summoning a third one. However, there appears to be a slight variation in her Maegfolc summons. She usually summons both of them at the beginning of the match, but can also space them out a bit. So, you may find Lodwyn summoning one of them in the beginning of a match and then summoning the second one when she loses a third of her HP.

Once again, don’t rush in, keep at a distance, and don’t stop with your ranged attacks. Maegfolcs can’t hurt you at a distance. Take them out first so you have a clear focus on Lodwyn later on in the battle. Once her minions are dead, she will combine her attacks from the first and second phases. So, just keep moving around to avoid her melee and range attacks while also slashing and shooting in between. Once she slows down, take advantage of her tanky movement speed to defeat Inquisitor Lodwyn.
