Rainy is one of the Drawbridge members you will encounter after having spent time connecting Australia. She has an intriguing backstory that Fragile recounts after we meet Rainy for the first time. We also learn more about her powers, which can appear two-dimensional when taken at face value but can have significant implications for the in-game world.
Death Stranding 2: Rainy Is A Pharmakon
Rainy is described by Fragile as a pharmakon – a medicine that can harm and a poison that can heal. Her powers, as shown in Death Stranding 2, are as follows:
- Timefall – Every time Rainy steps out, timefall begins. This essentially means that her presence can impact those around her due to the threat of timefall, i.e., accelerating the passage of time for anything she touches. This is the main reason she is ostracised by society, as seen in her backstory.
- Corefall – This is a unique precipitation that occurs within a 1.5m radius of Rainy’s body. It has the ability to restore anything it touches to an earlier state, effectively turning back timefall’s effects.

In Fragile’s first meeting with Rainy, she mentions that Rainy will save the world. While we don’t discover how Fragile envisions this, we do see the potential of Rainy’s power through the corefall. Its healing and restorative effect can have significant uses if it can be properly understood and harnessed. We don’t even know what or how far corefall can heal.
The duality of her powers perfectly fits the bill of a pharmakon and the broader themes of the Death Stranding universe. While her inadvertent power of bringing forth timefall every time she goes out is a nuisance and a threat, her powers to restore are a boon. She uses this power to take care of the birds and plants in her shelter. Unlike Tomorrow’s powers in Death Stranding 2, Rainy doesn’t have any ability that can be outright violent or aggressive.
