How To Beat Sato Katsubei (The Betrayers) in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Learn where Sato Katsubei resides and how to easily defeat him in Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ The Betrayers quest.

The Betrayers quest is undertaken by Yasuke to avenge the traitors who helped bring about Oda Nobunaga’s downfall. The quest is assigned by Hori Hidemasa, who can be found near the village in Otsu’s Mouth of the Sea sub-region. Out of the seven targets you need to assassinate, Sato Katsubei’s identity is already revealed. Although Yasuke needs to talk to Hori Hidemasa to start and conclude the quest, you can switch to Naoe for the assassinations.

Sato Katsubei Location in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Sato Katsubei is one of the first two targets in The Betrayers quest whose location you have to determine using the clues provided. Your intel says that he: 

• Is in Yamashiro
• Can be found in Yamazaki Castle

The map image above marks Sato Katsubei’s location inside a building in the northeastern wing of Yamazaki Castle. The castle is located directly south of Kyoto. 

How to Eliminate Sato Katsubei

Sato Katsubei isn’t a powerful combatant, but reaching him can be difficult because numerous guards protect Yamazaki Castle. The simplest way to eliminate Katsubei is to use the stealth approach with Naoe. 

• Reach the northeastern entrance of the castle near the cliff, as marked on the aforementioned map image. 
• Run to the left of the main entrance and jump across the three beams protruding from the wall. Leap to the pole on the left and reach the platform ahead. 
• Grapple to the top of the wall on the right, where a vertical chalk line marks the spot.
• Use the Observe skill to see Sato Katsubei inside the building directly ahead.
• Jump onto the building and sneak to the hatch on the right side of the roof’s opposite slope.
• Climb down the hatch, and Sato Katsubei will be right below you. 
• Assassinate Sato Katsubei.
• Climb back up the hatch and escape the way you came in. 

Playing as Yasuke, you can fight your way to Katsubei, as his location is near the northeast gate. In that case, equip a crowd-controlling weapon like the Naginata, as guards will swarm you soon after you enter the castle.
