In Baldur’s Gate 3, Dwarven Splintmail is a rare heavy chest piece you can purchase in Act 2 – this short Guide explains everything you need to know about Dwarven Splintmail in BG3.
Dwarven Splintmail
In Baldur’s Gate 3 Dwarven Splintmail is an easy-to-miss, but great piece of heavy armour for your Fighter, Paladin, or Cleric in the mid-game of Act 2. With a high Armour Class of 19, this chest piece also offers a few other bonuses, as well. Superior Plate protects you from some Piercing damage, while Body Aid grants you a +1 bonus to Strength Saving Throws and Checks. Additionally, the best perk the Dwarven Splintmail provides is the +2 boost to your Constitution. That is only up to a max of 20, however, so make sure to not put this on a character who already has a 19 or 20 Constitution ability score.
There is a drawback to this item, and that is the Disadvantage on Stealth Checks. However, since it’s best to use this gear on a high damage, melee type of build, that character likely won’t be doing a lot of sneaking around, anyway.

How to Get Dwarven Splintmail in Baldur’s Gate 3
To get the Dwarven Splintmail in Baldur’s Gate 3 you’ll need to find your way to Moonrise Towers in Act 2 and speak to Disciple Z’rell to unlock special stock sold by Lann Tarv. To do this, you will need to make sure that you visit Moonrise Towers during the early parts of Act 2. If you wait too long, events of the game will carry you along and lock you out of the vendors inside. You can find Moonrise Towers in the far southwest portion of the Shadow-Curse Lands map.
In get inside, you’ll need to convince the guards that you’re a friend through dialogue checks. Once inside the tower you can easily find the bugbear merchant Lann Tarv just to the right in the open area after you come through the main entrance. When you first interact with him, he’ll have some decent items for sale, including the Enraging Heart Garb. However, you won’t find the Dwarven Splintmail this first time around. Before you can buy this item, you’ll have to speak to Disciple Z’rell.
Unlock Disciple Z’rell’s Stash
You can find Disciple Z’rell by going through the large doors in the same space as Lann Tarv – they are marked as the ‘Absolute’s Door’. Once inside you’ll find a throne room like area. To either side of the throne are staircases which come together in the center. Go up either side and all the way up to the second floor. At the top landing move forward a short ways and then turn to the left to find Disciple Z’rell.
An automatic dialogue scene will start. She will share information about a lost relic that the General requires. Apparently someone was sent to retrieve it but hasn’t returns. When you get a chance to respond be sure to ask “What exactly was this relic he was sent to retrieve?” There will then be an Insight check which you will need to pass in order to get a Persuasion dialogue option to appear. You need to take this dialogue option and pass an 18DC Persuasion check to be successful.
Then when you get a chance to respond to her again, choose: “The relic is vital to Ketheric’s plans – you should be giving me more support.” She will respond that you should return to Lann Tarv and that he is to share her secret stash with you.
The next step is easy. Simply go back downstairs, interact with Lann Tarv. There will now be a dialogue option you can take that tell him Z’rell’s orders. The Dwarven Splintmail will now be available for you to purchase for 2,080 gold.
