We recommend the best option for each Descendant and deliver a guide to character reactors and their enhancement.
Reactors are vital components in The First Descendant, enhancing your character’s abilities and performance. When you understand how reactors work, match them to your Descendant’s skills, and enhance them effectively, you can easily optimize your gameplay experience and tackle tougher challenges with any character.
Reactors Explained
Reactors are essential character enhancements that boost your descendant’s abilities, stats, and overall performance. The first section of this guide will explain what reactors are, how they work for each character, how to enhance them, and why enhancement is beneficial for your gameplay in The First Descendant.
Reactors are powerful items designed to enhance the skills and performance of your Descendant (character). Also, each reactor is tailored to support a specific skill type, which means they must match your Descendant’s skills to provide the maximum benefit.
How Reactors Work
Skill Type Matching: Every Descendant has a particular type of skills, and each reactor is designed to enhance a specific skill type. However, to use it, the reactor must match your Descendant’s skill type. You can view your Descendant’s skill type in the skill tooltip (Descendant (H) > Descendant skill tooltip). Check the reactor’s item tooltip to confirm that it supports your Descendant’s skill type. Moreover, ensure your reactors are regularly checked and upgraded to keep your Descendant at peak performance.
Optimal Condition: Also, each reactor has an “optimal condition” that must be met to activate its power. This condition typically requires equipping a specific weapon type. Therefore, ensure that this weapon type is our primary weapon. Consequently, it will help you activate the bonuses more often, granting unique effects that can give a character to specific playstyles and strategies.
Optimization Condition: Similarly, each reactor comes with an Optimization Condition, which, if met, grants an even greater boost to skill power. These conditions usually depend on whether the weapon is equipped or the Descendant being used. You can check if the Optimization Condition is met in the reactor’s tooltip. If the condition is met, it will be checked; if not, it will be shown in red.
Random Bonuses: At the bottom of the Reactor tooltip, you can also see the random bonuses they can drop with. You can farm for them and look for reactors with bonuses that will complement your build. For example, the reactor image above shows a small boost to the HP Heal Modifier and Fire Skill Power Boost Ratio. It’s a small bonus, but if you want to fully maximize your results, you should take it into consideration.
How to Enhance Reactors in The First Descendant?
Enhancing reactors is a critical aspect of boosting their effectiveness. It provides several benefits that can significantly impact your gameplay. Additionally, enhancing reactors boosts the power of your Descendant’s skills, making them more effective in combat. Reactors provide better performance boosts with higher enhancement levels, so you and your Descendant can handle more challenging content and enemies. As a result, you can adjust your Descendant’s abilities to suit your preferred playstyle, whether it’s focusing on offense, defense, or utility.
Here’s how you can enhance your reactors:
- Reactors can be enhanced through the Workbench in Albion or at field camps once you reach Mastery Rank 6.
- The enhancement process consumes ‘Ion Accelerators,’ which are required in varying amounts depending on the tier and level of the reactor. The number of Ion Accelerators needed increases with the reactor’s Enhancement Level.
- Additionally, Ion Accelerators can be crafted through Research Requests, with crafting materials obtained by dismantling other reactors.
Enhancement Levels
Reactors have different maximum enhancement levels based on their tier. For instance, common-tier reactors can be enhanced up to Level 2, while ultimate-tier reactors can be enhanced up to Level 8.
The current Enhancement Level of a reactor is shown in the top right corner of its icon. Each level fills an empty slot/deltoid in the icon, making it easy to track your reactor’s enhancement progress.
