Unlike many contemporary RPGs, Avowed doesn’t allow you to change your appearance once you get past the character creation.
In Avowed, the first-person RPG by Obsidian Entertainment, players take up the role of an envoy journeying across the dangerous Living Lands. Customizing a character’s appearance is one of the fundamental features of modern RPGs. Similarly, you can customize the looks of your character at the character creation in Avowed, such as shaping facial features, hairstyles, and more.
However, if you are wondering whether the RPG allows you to change your appearance post-character creation, the answer is unfortunately no. Once you complete character creation, you cannot change your character’s appearance in Avowed.

How To Change Your Clothing or Armor Appearance in Avowed
While some modern RPGs allow you to modify your appearance anytime, Avowed does not offer this option. However, to compensate for this, Avowed features a transmog system that allows you to change your clothing and armor appearance without affecting stats. If you want to equip your favorite outfit while keeping the benefits of a high-stats item, you can do it simply with the transmog feature.
To change or transmog your clothing or armor in Avowed, follow these steps:
- Open the Inventory and head to the armor section.
- Hovering over the item and clicking on it will bring up two options — Equip and Transmogrify.
- Choose the Equip option if you want to keep the stats of the specific item.
- Then, hover over the item that you wish to wear or transmog, and then select the transmogrify option to apply its appearance without worrying about stats.
The transmog feature can be highly beneficial for players who want to maintain their character’s aesthetic while retaining strong gear stats.

Can You Change Your Companions’s Appearance in Avowed?
Unlike your own character’s appearance, Avowed allows you to change your companion’s appearance. However, the process is not straightforward.
- First, you need to set up a Party Camp at one of the green and crystalline Adra Waystones.
- Once done, head to the Main Camp Tent and interact with it to change your companion outfits.
- Before using this feature, you must acquire outfits for your companions — unless you own the Premium Edition, which rewards several outfits for your companions.
