Assassin’s Creed Shadows features one of the strongest prologues in the series, seeing Nagato, Naoe’s father, slain and butchered by a shadowy group of warriors. In true Assassin’s Creed fashion, all of these perpetrators then end up on Naoe’s hitlist, allowing you to deliver justice through the hidden blade.

The Fox is one of the 11 men who have blood on their hands and need to be assassinated. This killer is not out in the open, however, and is a little tricky to find. You first need to complete a set of objectives to locate the target before enacting justice.

If you’re looking for the Fox and can’t seem to find him or perhaps need help with assassinating him, we’re here to help. In this guide, we shall go over how to find and defeat the Fox in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Red Walls

You begin your hunt for the Fox by first meeting up with Nagahide in his estate in the Wakasa region of AC Shadows. As you approach the estate, an outlaw at the gate will threaten you. Dispose of the outlaw and venture deeper, and you will learn that the estate is overrun by criminals. Rush to Nagahide’s aid and kill the criminals nearby.

A cutscene then plays out where Nagahide sets the dead on the pyre, revealing his clan is being hunted. The old man has learned that these outlaws are led by a man that wears a mask and directs you to Hong to obtain further information.

Hong runs a stall in central Obama in the Wakasa region. Head to the central area of the city and look for lanterns, following the lanterns along the path till you run into Hong. Over a bowl of noodles, Hong reveals that pirates are disrupting peace in Wakasa, placing all the blame on their leader, Samemaru. He also directs you to investigate Tsuruga Castle. The chef then asks you to kill the pirates as payment for the noodles.

Smuggler’s Gambit

After chugging down a hot bowl of noodles, it is now time to track down Samemaru, who is hidden in Hiruga Bay, west of Lake Suigetsu. Sneak into the pirate lair and make your way towards Samemaru’s cabin. As you enter, you notice that the captain himself is absent but has left clues that unveil the conspiracy.

The letter on the table reveals that Samemaru was hired by the masked man to hunt down members of the Niwa clan. Make your way down south across the pirate lair, and you will find another letter that reveals that Samemaru is meeting the masked conspirator in Obama.

Revenge

With a concrete lead on Samemaru, it is now time to look into the Tsuruga Castle issue Hong had mentioned. Head over to the castle and talk to Nagahide’s cousin. As you’re discussing the ongoing murders with your audience, intruders attack the castle. Help the castle guards fend off the intruders and then return to the relatives in the main chamber. The cousin will then direct you to Saifukuji Temple and find the source of the music.

Head to Saifukuji Temple and trace the origins of the melody to the Biwa Master. The Biwa Master will play through a bunch of melodies and cycle through them till you recognize the one tied to The Fox. The Biwa Master will reveal that the melody was an original composed by one of his students, Takeda Motoaki.

The Performer

Armed with the identity of The Fox, it is time to return to and inform Nagahide of the conspirators. Nagahide will then reveal his rivalry with the Takeda. The Fox wants to reclaim the territory now under the Niwa Clan and is clearly resorting to any means necessary to do so. Nagahide will then direct you to Takeda Motoaki’s location in the Samurai district.

As you approach Motoaki’s territory, Samemaru emerges from the shadows and runs through the streets. This then kicks off a chase sequence where you have to chase down Samemaru as Yasuke. Chase him down to a dead end, and Samemaru will pull out his sword for a fight. You then have to kill him and will switch back to Naoe right after.

As Yasuke hunts down Samemaru, Naoe is on the hunt for The Fox, who is in the Samurai Yashiki District. Explore the district, and you will find the servant woman who works for Takeda. Trail the woman from the rooftops, and she will lead you to The Fox’s location. Once she stops, use your senses to locate the sound of the melody nearby. Head into the shed nearby, and you will find a letter kicking off a cutscene. This cutscene will bring you head to head against The Fox.

Since you’re directly thrown into a confrontation with The Fox, there is no room for stealth. You have to fight The Fox head-on, and he is quicker than he looks. The Fox uses a combo of pokes, downward slashes, and diagonal strikes. If you stick too close for too long, he will also use a kick to push you back. These attacks are telegraphed by the red indicator and give you plenty of time to dodge. Dodge his attacks and strike away to defeat The Fox.
