As players journey across the Forgotten Realms in Baldur’s Gate 3, they will need all the tools they can get to fight monsters and stave off the impending threat of the Netherbrain. As it happens, some of these tools are made using Mithral Ore, one of the game’s most important resources.

In this guide, we’ll share how players can find and mine Mithral Ore to forge valuable weapons and gear.

What is Mithral Ore used for in BG3?

Mithral Ore in Baldur’s Gate 3 is used for crafting your choice of two of six different Adamantine weapons and armor pieces at the Adamantine Forge. These are the only two pieces of gear that you can actively craft through out the whole of the game. Moreover, they are typically great mid-game pieces of gear that will remain useful into Act 2 of BG3.

Here are the six different gear pieces that can be crafted with Mithral Ore in Baldur’s Gate 3:

Furthermore, to craft one of these Adamantine gear pieces you will need one Mithral Ore and one corresponding Mould. The Moulds are scattered across the Grymforge and you can find them as you explore.

Finally, you can only find two Mithral Ore in the Grymforge of BG3, and therefore you can only craft two out of the six possible pieces. Choose wisely, based on your class and build.

Players will find Mithral Ore inside Grymforge in the Underdark of Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3. It is stored inside Mithral Veins and can be extracted if you follow the right steps.

To find Mithral Veins, go to the Ancient Forge waypoint in Grymforge and head southeast down a flight of stairs towards the actual forge. As you go down, you’ll find more broken stairs to the left. When you head towards them, a few enemies will ambush you. Defeat them and parkour past some lava rocks to reach the first Mithral Vein.

To locate the second Mithral Vein, head right from the Ancient Forge waypoint and follow the path along the edge of the cliff. You will then come across another lava route that you must parkour through to reach your destination.

Be careful while navigating the Mithral Veins as they are guarded by Magma Mephits, who wait in the shadows to ambush. These enemies are fairly easy to defeat, but they self-detonate after dropping to low HP. Maintain your distance and ideally use ranged attacks to deal with them. Also, the lava paths are treacherous, and a misclick could mean death.

After you have found Mithral Veins, the next step is to extract the Mithral Ore in Baldur’s Gate 3, and you must use a weapon that does Bludgeoning damage to do so. The Veins are pretty tough to break, so you must deal high damage. Switch to a powerful character in your party and use a bludgeoning weapon on the Mithral Vein.

How To Use Mithral Ore At The Adamantine Forge

To use the Mithral Ore at the Adamantine Forge in Baldur’s Gate 3 to craft a piece of gear, you will need to have the Mithral Ore, the Mould you want to use, and you need to first defeat the Grym construct.

Follow these steps to use the Adamantine Forge:

  1. Place one of the moulds for the weapon/armour you want to craft in the Mould Chamber.
  2. Put Mithral Ore in the crucible in the center of the forge
  3. Pull the forge lever, and the platform will move down.
  4. Interact with Lava Valve, and the Grym fight will start.

The very first time you do these steps, this will activate Grym and the fight with it will automatically trigger. Once you have brought the construct down, you can return to the Forge and use the forge level to release your completed piece. Then, follow the same steps above to craft your second piece.
