Adamantine Shield
The Adamantine Shield, a rare shield in Baldur’s Gate 3, stands out in Act 1 for its exceptional defensive attributes for various character classes. This shield will significantly enhance your survivability and combat power, making it a top-tier choice for a cleric, fighter, druid, or paladin. However, it will work fantastic with almost any class. You can equip it to your character’s off-hand weapon slot in the inventory, providing additional bonuses and buffs. The user needs Shield proficiency or suffers penalties while wearing the shield.
One of the notable bonuses of the Adamantine Shield is that when a melee attack misses you, it causes the attacker to be “Reeling” for 2 turns. This status effect adds -1 penalty to Attack Rolls for every turn remaining for the enemy. Additionally, equipping the Adamantine Shield grants you immunity to critical hits. Critical hits often deal additional damage or have special effects, making this shield particularly valuable in protecting you from devastating enemy attacks.

How to Get the Adamantine Shield in Baldur’s Gate 3
To get the Adamantine Shield in Baldur’s Gate 3, craft it in Adamantine Forge, located in Grymforge, during Act 2. You must find Mithral Ore and Shield Mould and defeat Grym first.
The following list explains all the steps to get and craft Adamantine Shield in BG3:
- Arrive at Grymforge during Act 1
- Find Shield Mould inside the skeleton in the dormitory of Ancient Forge, top floor (X -560 Y: 410)
- Gather Mithral Ore from one of two available ore veins.
- Find legendary Adamantine Forge.
- Insert Mithral ore into the Crucible.
- Insert Shield Mould to Mould Chamber
- Pull the forge lever to lower the platform.
- Release Lava valve
- The construct guarding the forge will appear, and you need to defeat him.
- The best strategy is to debuff Grym by luring him into lava, then to the crucible and smack with a crucible piston by pulling the lever.
- After the fight, recheck the forge. Your crafted Adamantine Shield should be lying next to the mould chamber.
- Get the Adamantine Shield and enjoy your new shield!
There are six craftable adamantine gear pieces to craft, but only two Mithral ore (check the locations on the map above). First, you can find Mithral ore northwest of the ruined staircase that leads straight to the Adamantine Forge. The second location is to the east, where you’ll need to make a jump over the lava and be careful not to step inside to collect it. Destroy the more veins to obtain it.
