Allies are very precious in any journey. In this guide, we have explained how to unlock all companions in Avowed.
Throughout your journey in Avowed, you meet many unique characters in the Living Lands. Among these characters, four specific people join you in different parts of your playthrough. Additionally, you do not have to go out of your way to recruit them. Every one of these companions joins you as you progress through the main missions.
All of them specialize in different aspects of the game and are very useful. However, of these four companions, you can only have two at a time in your party. If you are curious about when they will join you, this guide explains how to unlock all companions in Avowed.
Kai Is the First Companion Who Joins You in Avowed
Kai is one of the first companions you can recruit in Avowed, and he joins you during the “Message from Afar” main quest in Dawnshore. After escaping by boat and reaching the docks, you’ll encounter Kai, who is getting scolded by Captain Cynric. Join the conversation between both of them, and you get to start the first main mission of Avowed. At the end of the conversation, Kai decides to help you on your journey and becomes the first companion you unlock.

Marius Joins You Shorty After as a Companion in Avowed
Keep progressing through the mission until you reach the city of Paradis. Continue with the quest until you get shot by an arrow at the embassy of the city. This unlocks the “An Untimely End” mission, where you have to go to the Grinning Balarok bar in Paradis to get help from Marius. Marius then joins your party to help you find the one responsible for the events that are going to occur.
Giatta Joins You as a Companion in the Second Region of Avowed
The third companion, named Giatta, can be recruited during “The Animancy Method” main quest in The Emerald Stair, which is the second region you visit. As an expert in animancy, she holds vast knowledge that becomes crucial in solving the mysteries of the Living Lands. Finally, after assisting you in obtaining an Adragan Heart, Giatta agrees to join your party as a permanent companion.

Yatzli Finally Joins You as a Companion in Avowed
Lastly, Yatzli is the final recruitable companion, who is unlocked during the “Face Your Fears” main mission in Shatterscarp. However, when you first meet her in The Emerald Stair region, she is still unrecruitable. After meeting with the leader of Thirdborn and speaking with them, Yatzli offers her expertise and combat skills to your party. Finally, this is how you get your final companion in Avowed.
