Discover the new ESO gear sets arriving in the Elder Scrolls Online next update, Scions of Ithelia DLC Update 41, coming in March of 2024.
Scions of Ithelia DLC Update 41 Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) & New Gear Sets
The Elder Scrolls Online Scions of Ithelia DLC (Update 41) features two DLC dungeons: The Oathsworn Pit and Bedlam Veil. The Oathsworn Pit is a training ground for Malacath’s chosen. Bedlam Veil is located within the demiplane of Maelstrom and will give veteran players a nostalgic itch in the familiar scenes from Maelstrom Arena. Each of these sets is still subject to change within the weeks of the Update 41 PTS.
Will the new gear sets arriving in March be any good? Let us take a look at the new gear sets for Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) for Scions of Ithelia DLC Update 41.
Oathsworn Pit
Below are all the gear sets in the Oathsworn Pit dungeon, released with the Scions of Ithelia DLC:
- Light Armor: Cinders of Anthelmir
- Medium Armor: Sluthrug’s Hunger
- Heavy Armor: Black-Glove Grounding
- Monster Set: Anthelmir’s Construct
Light Armor: Cinders of Anthelmir
The Cinders of Anthelmir Set gives two lines of weapon and spell damage, a line of penetration, and a proc condition in the Elder Scrolls Online (ESO):
- 2 items: Adds 1487 Offensive Penetration
- 3 items: Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
- 4 items: Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
- 5 items: On dealing damage, summon a Cindermoth for 8 seconds that chases the target and searches for a new one within 8 meters if the initial is slain. The first enemy that gets near the Cindermoth causes it to stop and burst after 1 second, dealing Flame Damage and applying Burning to enemies within 8 meters. This can occur once every 8 seconds and scales off your Weapon and Spell Damage.
This set could see some play, depending on the total DPS. With the recent changes to status effects, the Aoe guaranteed Burning could be impactful. We’ll just have to see what kind of damage it can do. The limiting factor might be the lack of crit bonuses on the set.
Depending on how quickly the moth moves, it could see use in PvP. The additional item bonuses would be much more effective in PvP.
Medium Armor: Sluthrug’s Hunger
Sluthrug’s Hunger could be the most impactful set in the Scions of Ithelia DLC in the Elder Scrolls Online (ESO):
- 2 items: 129 Stamina Recovery
- 3 items: 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
- 4 items: 1487 Offensive Penetration
- 5 items: Healing yourself or an ally makes the recipient blood hungry for 3 seconds. When you deal direct damage to an enemy, the enemy becomes bloodied for 3 seconds. Bloodied enemies take 4% more damage from and deal 4% less damage to blood hungry targets.
We’ll have to see how this set is best implemented, but organized PvE groups could put this on the Elemental Catalyst Necromancer. With Mortal Coil in the group, the heal could be procced every 3 seconds, assuming the group is taking enough damage. The direct damage requirement should be easy to meet on a Necro. Whirling Blades is direct damage, so applying Bloodied to a group of enemies should be easy to maintain.
Still, this needs to be tested to figure out if it is worth slotting. It likely won’t proc for over-healing, just actual healing done. In fights with substantial shielding or little group damage, the group may not receive these buffs. It could also see some play in PvP groups since it doesn’t seem like the ally needs to be a group member.
Heavy Armor: Black-Glove Grounding
Black-Glove Grounding gives two lines of max health, 4% healing taken, and a group buff that reduces the cost of roll dodge and increases group block mitigation in the Elder Scrolls Online (ESO):
- 2 items: 4% Healing Taken
- 3 items: 1206 Maximum Health
- 4 items: 1206 Maximum Health
- 5 items: After taking direct damage three times within 5 seconds, you create a 5-meter area for 10 seconds that grants Grounding to you and group members, reducing the cost of roll dodging by 20% and increasing block mitigation by 12% for 15 seconds. This effect can occur once every 15 seconds.
Black-Glove Grounding probably won’t see any play in the current scope of content.
Though the 5-meter radius of the aoe is very small, group members only have to step into the circle to gain the buff. Paired with a set like Syrabane’s Ward, this could give your group 42% block mitigation. There just isn’t much of a use case for needing that much group block mitigation. While we could see some kind of encounter in the upcoming Gold Road Chapter, the current content doesn’t make use of this set.
Monster Set: Anthelmir’s Construct
The Anthelmir’s Construct monster set gives weapon and spell damage and a proc condition that shreds enemy armor in the Elder Scrolls Online (ESO):
- 1 items: Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
- 2 items: Attacking an enemy with a fully-charged Heavy Attack throws an axe at your enemy, dealing 4358 Physical Damage and reducing their armor by 990 for 5 seconds. This effect can occur once every 10 seconds and the damage and armor reduction scale off the higher of your weapon or Spell Damage
Armor shred is always usable when the damage dealers are all wearing medium armor. Unfortunately, Anthelmir’s Construct is procced with a heavy attack on a 10-second cooldown and only lasts for 5 seconds. Though you can reduce the cooldown by picking up the axe, those are difficult conditions to make it worth running anywhere.
If the armor shred scales high enough, PvP gankers could charge a heavy attack to proc this as their opener. There probably isn’t any other use for this set though, since it lasts for such a short duration.
Bedlam Veil
Below are all the gear sets in the new dungeon Bedlam Veil in the Scions of Ithelia DLC:
- Light Armor: Blind Path Induction
- Medium Armor: Tarnished Nightmare
- Heavy Armor: Reflected Fury
- Monster Set: The Blind
Light Armor: Blind Path Induction
Blind Path increases the strength of your damage shields to targets near you and increases healing done to targets further away from you in the Elder Scrolls Online (ESO):
- 2 items: Adds 1096 Maximum Magicka
- 3 items: Adds 4% Healing Done
- 4 items: Adds 1096 Maximum Magicka
- 5 items: Increase the strength of your Damage Shields by 13% to you and targets 15 meters of you. Increase your Healing Done by 13% to targets more than 15 meters away from you.
There aren’t many scenarios where the Blind Path Induction set will be used. For PvE, healers who are having trouble healing Bahsei could make use of this yet, since both healers are ranged healing. There are not many other scenarios where this would be used in PvE content.
In PvP, the only place this could see play is for a PvP Arcanist Healer in organized ball groups. With the amount of shielding thrown out and the extra healing on players who get caught outside of the group, it could be a usable set in that scenario.
Medium Armor: Tarnished Nightmare
The Tarnished Nightmare Set features 3 lines of critical chance and aoe Sundered in the Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) DLC Scions of Ithelia:
- 2 items: 657 Critical Chance
- 3 items: 657 Critical Chance
- 4 items: 657 Critical Chance
- 5 items: When you deal Critical Damage to an enemy, glass shards burst 8 meters around them, dealing 3132 Physical Damage to enemies in the burst and applying the Sundered status effect. This effect can occur once every 8 seconds and the damage scales off the higher of your Weapon or Spell Damage
While the 3 lines of critical chance are great, the five-piece bonus is unfortunately lacking.
The 5-piece does apply aoe Sundered, however, which could see some play in more creative group compositions. Sundered applies minor breach to targets for 4 seconds, coming out to a 50% uptime. That’s not as competitive as more consistent sources, but the aoe aspect could help with large trash packs if they can be neatly stacked. Considering the patch is also increasing the damage of Sundered, organized compositions could put Tarnished Nightmare on a damage dealer or healer.
Tarnished Nightmare could also see play in PvP as additional armor shred against ball groups or in bomber builds. Though the damage from the 5-piece might be underwhelming, the three lines of critical chance do make up for it. At the very least, this is a good trash set.
Heavy Armor: Reflected Fury
The Reflected Fury Set from Scions of Ithelia is for tanks in the Elder Scrolls Online (ESO):
- 2 items: 1206 Maximum Health
- 3 items: 1206 Maximum Health
- 4 items: 1096 Maximum Stamina
- 5 items: When you taunt an enemy, gain a stack of Broken Shards for 5 seconds, up to 5 stacks max. You can only gain one stack every 1 second. When Broken Shards ends, you release the stacks in an 8 meter blast, dealing Physical Damage to enemies hit and applying Major Maim to them for 3 seconds per stack of Broken Shards consumed, reducing their damage done by 10%. The damage scales off your Max Health.
The problem with this set is Frost Clench already applies Major Maim to a target, and the proc conditions for this set take too long. Reflected Fury would probably only have use in trash packs, but it takes at least 5 seconds to proc the blast, increasing for each enemy taunted. There just doesn’t seem to be a need for this set right now.
Monster Set: The Blind
The Blind monster set includes a line of critical chance, a damage shield, and Minor Force in the Elder Scrolls Online (ESO):
- 1 items: Adds 657 Critical Chance
- 2 items: Critically healing yourself or an ally grants them a Hydroglass Damage Shield that absorbs up to 2692 damage for 6 seconds. While the Damage Shield holds and for 3 seconds after it ends, the target gains Minor Force, increasing their Critical Damage done by 10%.
In PvE content, damage dealers already have plenty of sources for Minor Force. Most damage dealers run the mythic item Velothi Ur-Mage’s Amulet and keep up Barbed Trap for the entirety of a fight. The Blind Visage probably won’t see any PvE play, outside of running a single piece of it for a line of critical chance.
It might be used in some PvP content, however. Providing a damage shield, intermittent Minor Force, and a line of Critical Chance is a usable combination for adding a little bit of everything on a monster helm.
