The next release from Obsidian Entertainment, Avowed, is set for release on February 18, 2025. Based on the world of Pillars of Eternity, this action RPG promises a deep story, dialogue system, meaningful player choices, and more. Although much has been revealed about the game, fans have been waiting anxiously to learn more about how the title performs on the various devices where it launches. This is especially true for those planning to play the RPG on the Xbox Series S|X consoles.
Just a few days before its release, the developer has hinted at how the game will run on the consoles. Let’s see what they said on the matter.
Avowed on Xbox Consoles: What To Expect
Carrie Patel, the game’s director, recently sat down for an interview on the MinnMax podcast. And, this is where she talked extensively about what Xbox console owners can expect performance-wise from the upcoming title. During a section, she assured that the game would hit 60 fps on the Xbox Series X, relieving the fans who were hoping for a smooth gameplay experience.
Keep in mind though that you’ll likely have to rely on the Performance Mode to achieve this framerate. This would mean a slight drop in the graphical fidelity to boost the fps, which shouldn’t be too bad a trade-off, especially when playing at upscaled 4K.
It’s also interesting to note that Patel didn’t mention anything about the game’s performance on the less powerful Xbox Series S console. And, that omission itself might be construed as the Series S’s inability to run the impending game at a standard 60fps.

Game Director Warns of Jank and Bugs in the Game
During the podcast, Patel also spoke about the performance of the game in general. She claimed that post-release, players can expect some degree of jank and bugs. If you have ever dived into the other releases from Obsidian Entertainment, you would be familiar with how their games can be buggy and might lack fluid performance at some points. Whether it was The Outer Worlds or Fallout New Vegas, players have always hailed the studio for their deep narrative rather than for their technical prowess.
Going by the director’s comments during the podcast, Avowed looks to continue this unfortunate tradition. For now, you will just have to wait and watch how ‘janky’ the game is at release. All fans can hope for now is that Avowed doesn’t release with any game-breaking bugs.
