One of the first potential companions we’ve seen for this 2024 fantasy RPG, let’s take a look at everything we know about Avowed Companion: Kai.
With an anticipated release in 2024, Avowed in an action-adventure RPG which takes place in the world of Eora, a fantasy setting first seen in the Pillars of Eternity games. Companions will be an important part of the gameplay, and you will have the chance to meet and recruit a variety of different people during your adventures. Let’s take a look at Kai, one of the potential companions in Avowed.
Avowed Companion: Kai
In Avowed, the companion Kai is of the coastal aumaua race who comes from the nation of Rauatai. We don’t know yet what brought him to the Living Lands, but he possesses past military experience. He’s likely more of a ranger archetype than a fighter, based on his preference for lighter armor which gives him greater speed and movement. Kai’s choice of weapons are a sword and flintlock pistol, which make him deadly at range and in melee.
Kai’s personality is easy-going and laid back. His experience in the field will make him a level-headed companion, and someone who can be relied upon in a fight.
Kai prefers not to overburden himself with heavy armor, and instead relies on skill and speed over bulky defenses, like many Rauatain naval fighters.
He is the most straightforward of the companions and the one you’d vote “most likely to have a beer with.”
Official Kai Description
In the previous Pillars of Eternity games the racial bonuses for coastal aumaua included defensive bonuses to the Prone and Stun effects or resistances to afflictions. While it’s not certain that the developers will carry these racial bonuses over to Avowed exactly, it’s likely that Kai will have either some resistance to status effects of crowd control. Either would make him a highly beneficial companion to add to your party.
First seen in the Official Gameplay Trailer released in June 2023, Kai is cast there as the narrator. He is speaking to the viewer as if they are the game’s protagonist and offering insight into the game’s story and conflicts.
Avowed Kai Cosplay Guide
Following their release of the gameplay trailer this past summer, Obsidian created a Kai Cosplay Guide for fans in August. This may seem unusual for a developer to do, given that a release day for the game itself hasn’t been announced yet. However, aside from the obvious marketing strategy, it’s likely that this was done to give potential cosplayers time to prepare.
The guide itself includes lots of images which show all of the details for the many pieces of Kai’s outfit. These include both the clothing elements, as well as accessories and weapons.
Additional Avowed Game Details
Avowed does not yet have an official release date, but should launch sometime in 2024. This upcoming action role-playing video game is developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios.
Additionally, Avowed will be a Microsoft exclusive, which means that it will release on both Xbox Series X/S and on Windows PC. Moreover, it will also be available Day One on both Xbox and PC Game Pass.
