Assassin’s Creed Shadows is releasing on March 20, 2025, which is coming within a few weeks. The developers have stated that they have made many improvements already, and AC Shadows is their “Ultimate Assassin’s Creed Game.” Before the announcement of the game, there was speculation around Codename Red.

Many fans wondered if the game was going to finally ditch the RPG approach and be more of an old-school Assassin’s Creed, so to speak. And whether or not the devs are going to fix the parkour and give more focus to stealth. While a gameplay reveal trailer was released recently, Ubisoft did not announce what fans should expect after the release of the game.

3 Updates Fans Might Want To See Post-Launch

Some of those speculations we mentioned above were proven right when Ubisoft Quebec confirmed that one of the protagonists of the game will be an Assassin trained in the ways of the Brotherhood, which was absent in Odyssey and Valhalla.

The developers also confirmed that they are going to focus more on stealth and improve it. The game has already shown many new stealth mechanics, such as hiding in the shadows and a new proning stance. However, other things related to parkour and post-launch content weren’t announced. So, in this article, we are going to explore 3 updates AC Shadows should bring to the table after its release.

3. Permadeath Mode

The hardcore players of the AC community will expect Ubisoft Quebec to release a permadeath mode post-launch. Assassin’s Creed Mirage was the first AC game that added such a mode. However, Mirage was originally designed to be a DLC, so it had a relatively short runtime. And if we look at the previous three RPG titles in the series, then we can assume that Shadows is going to be a long game.

Only implementing a normal permadeath mode surely would not work. When it comes to the RPG approach of the game, the level scaling can ruin the experience for a lot of players in a permadeath mode. It can force gamers to grind side quests to match a target’s level before they can attack them. And if they die in those sidequests, then they will lose all of their progression, which can be incredibly frustrating.

To remedy that, Ubisoft will have to remove all level scaling in the permadeath mode. It is not an absolute necessity, but having that mode can be rewarding for players who want to be challenged.

2. Separate DLCs for Naoe and Yasuke

Fans might want different DLCs (Image via Ubisoft)

We know that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will have two protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke. And each of them will have distinctly different playstyles. Naoe is an agile character who’s suited for stealth, while Yasuke is a tank who will be more effective in direct combat. However, the level design might suffer because of these two different playstyles being in the same game. Developers will have to build each level in a way that will allow both approaches.

This can be a good design choice if done correctly. However, when trying to do both, the levels might fail to provide the full Shinobi or Samurai power fantasy. It can be incredibly hard to create a level that will complement a Shinobi’s stealth approach and the Samurai’s direct approach at the same time.

So to make both Naoe and Yasuke players happy, Ubisoft should consider releasing two different DLCs, each focusing on Naoe and Yasuke separately, and each designed specifically to fit the two characters’ distinct playstyles. This is an update that many fans might want after the game releases.

1. Back and Side Ejects

Prior to the gameplay reveal, Ubisoft Quebec promised fans that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will improve the parkour mechanics, and it will be more reminiscent of the older titles. There were also speculations that Ubisoft would bring the beloved AC Unity parkour system back in Shadows. However, after the gameplay reveal trailer and the preview event, fans have voiced their disappointment regarding the parkour of the game.

Many fans and YouTubers were invited to the preview event and got to experience four hours of gameplay. According to them, the parkour of AC Shadows is more similar to the newer RPG titles than the older games. They have also said that the parkour in the game does not have many essential mechanics, most notably the side and back eject. The ejects were an essential part of the parkour in the earlier games, and even though there is a version of back eject when players try to descend from a platform, there are no eject mechanics to gain height or momentum.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage received a similar complaint from the fans; however, the issue was fixed, and the ejects were added with an update by the developers. Ubisoft Quebec should take a similar approach and implement the side and back ejects to the parkour with a post-launch update.
