Learn how to put down Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds by knowing its weaknesses and the rewards dropped.

Monster Hunter Wilds introduces players to Rompopolo, a monster straight out of nightmares. Many creatures in the game are more fascinating than “creepy”. But that’s not true of this beast. You would think the best way to deal with it is to avoid it altogether. However, luckily for everyone facing Rompopolo, it is not that difficult to take down once you know its weaknesses and move set.
In this article, we will go over how to defeat Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds while also talking about its weaknesses and the rewards dropped by it.
Rompopolo Overview
When you first look at it, this beast will appear as weird as its name. Rompopolo is a Brute Wyvern, meaning you wouldn’t have too much difficulty following it around because it will stay on land only. It behaves like any other wyvern would. It’s aggressive and doesn’t wait around to counter your attacks. The most interesting part about the beast is its analogy.
There are two main stages of the monster: deflated and inflated. The latter is usually the default state you find it in. In this stage, it has added abilities that include some AoE attacks for crowd control. If you keep attacking the monster, it will eventually deflate and resort to physical attacks.
As far as the appearance is concerned, the Wyvern mostly looks like a cross between a scorpion and a mosquito, with some additional creepy elements that the developers added to spice things up.
How To Unlock Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds

Rompopolo is a beast that you can stumble upon both in Low Rank and High Rank. At all times, it will either be part of some Optional Quest or Investigation. Players can do both of these activities even after completing the game if they don’t wish to hinder the primary questline.
We recommend that you take up the Optional Quest called A Fuse Ignited for the easiest experience. Rompopolo is usually hanging out in the oil-filled areas of the Oilwell Basin region. You can also find it brawling against Ajarakan at times.
Rompopolo Weaknesses

Elemental Weaknesses
- Fire
- Water
- Thunder
- Ice
- Dragon
Status Weaknesses
- Stun
- Paralysis
- Sleep
- Blast
- Exhaust
We haven’t found Rompopolo to be immune to any elements in the game. However, it is equally weak to all of them. On a side note, though, no element mentioned here is capable of putting it down easily and players can opt for whichever one they like the best. Similarly, the Status mentioned here are all equally effective but are more potent compared to the Elemental weaknesses.
Rompopolo Weak Points
The Brute Wyvern has several notable weak points on its body. When fighting Rompopolo, we suggest that you pay special attention to its tongue, head, back, and tail. All of these parts, except the tongue, are breakable. You can target them separately to land critical hits and also ensure that the enemy doesn’t use these parts often for the rest of the battle.
Best Weapons for Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds

All kinds of weapons are good to use against Rompopolo. However, we suggest that you stick to Dual Swords, Longswords, and Gunlance. There is a reason why we have put these categories over others and that is the fact that Rompopolo is not slow like many other Brute Wyverns that are similar to its size. So, we need to be mobile at all times and continue dealing damage from a distance.
While Dual Swords let you swoop in and out of the battle quickly, they don’t deal a lot of damage. If your playstyle is evasive, you should definitely go for these. On the contrary, if you want to keep slashing without having to compromise your DPS, we suggest that you take Longsword with you instead. Lastly, a Gunlance will come in handy because of the attack patterns that Rompopolo has. This way, when you are away from it, you can still deal damage.

How To Beat Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds

Rompopolo only has a few moves in his move sets. However, they are all as bizarre as it gets. First and foremost, it has an attack where it backs up a little and then spits out a poisonous gas. This gas creates a wall that will damage the players if they get caught in it. However, it’s fairly easy to dodge.
The poisonous gas gets carried into another move where the strange creature puts its tail into the ground and injects the gas below. Now, there are two outcomes.
If it is sitting on its own tail, the AoE gas clouds will come out from several areas. However, if it is standing regularly, there will only be one explosion. These explosions are pretty easy to track. They either take place directly around Rompopolo, at an enemy monster, or right where you are standing.
Apart from this, he has a few physical attacks that don’t deal a lot of damage, and you can usually see them coming. However, if you have dealt enough damage, it will get ready to flee as well.
Tips To Defeat Rompopolo
Here are some tips that you may find useful in your fight against the beast:
- Always be on the lookout for the gaseous attacks that Rompopolo initiates. You can pay attention to its inflated sacs to predict his moves and also note how he repositions himself.
- Simply evade the area when it initiates a gas cloud attack to avoid complete damage.
- You can also flank the beast if the clouds are not surrounding it at the moment because it is vulnerable while it is using these gas attacks.
- If Ajarakan is attacking the beast, try keeping your attacks from landing the former. This will help you defeat Rompopolo faster.
