Monster Hunter Wilds Rove: Character guide

Rove is a mysterious Wudwud in Monster Hunter Wilds or MHWilds who is found in the Iceshard Cliffs. Given that Wudwuds are usually found in the Scarlet Forest, he is really far from home.

What Is Rove’s Role in Monster Hunter Wilds Story?

Rove can be encountered multiple times throughout the Monster Hunter Wilds’ story. Compared to other Wudwuds, Rove is quite distinct, especially in how the Lynian expresses his thoughts and the words he chooses. He is quite eloquent, pensive, and thoughtful, strikingly different from the other Wudwuds we encounter in the Scarlet Forest. Upon the game’s launch, Rove quickly became a fan favorite. Some of his most popular quotes are:

• “I Squirm. I Struggle. Ergo I am.”
• “Faced with death, I am finally truly alive.”
• “Is it wiser to use a needle to fight or to hide in a haystack?”
• “Ah, now death greets me with a new mask or are you my salvation?”
• “Be assured/ Though we may differ in fur and fancy, we are seekers both. Companions at the fireside.”

In Monster Hunter Wilds, you encounter Rove first in Nerscylla’s lair, where the Lynian is caught in the web. You will be able to rescue him once you defeat Nerscylla. Later, Rove will help you find your way through the Iceshard Cliffs. He also plays a role in the Frenzied Virus storyline in the Master Rank, when we are told that the Wudwud has been affected. Quite appropriately, Rove was merely under the weather, unlike the other frenzied monsters that became violent and aggressive.

MHWilds Rove: Quests and Other Interactions

Rove assigns you the Aberrant Atrocity quest. Once you have freed him from Nerscylla’s lair and reached HR 16, go to Area 20: Ancient Room in Iceshard Cliffs. The side quest tasks you to kill a Frenzied Yian Kut-Ku, rewarding 5x Ancient Wyvern Coin and 2x Gracium.

Rove also acts as a trader in Monster Hunter Wilds. The trade list is as follows:

• Although a Wudwud, Rove is quite distinct in his words and actions. He is far from home and on an expedition of his own.
• Rove’s hat has got the community wondering where it came from. The popular theories include another hunter, someone from Azuz, or from Suja. The associated quote is “This cap was the favored flair of a dear friend.”
