Everything you need to know about the Light Bowgun in Monster Hunter Wilds, including its basic combos, Focus Strike, and more.

The Light Bowgun is the fastest ranged weapon type in Monster Hunter Wilds. Due to its lightweight nature, the Light Bowgun offers unparalleled mobility as well as an incredibly high fire rate, suitable for inflicting a ton of elemental as well as raw damage.
Furthermore, the weapon’s ability to use coating makes it very versatile and effective against most monsters in the game. However, that being said, due to the lower damage threshold, the Light Bowgun is also one of the more “riskier” weapon types. While it is capable of dishing out impressive damage via coatings, using it properly requires timing and also positioning. Unlike the Bow, the Light Bowgun isn’t very effective at long range.
Instead, it’s a weapon that’s most effective at medium range. Here’s everything you need to know about the Light Bowgun in Monster Hunter Wilds.
How To Use the Light Bowgun in Monster Hunter Wilds?

The Light Bowgun is functionally quite similar to the Bow. The weapon offers superior mobility and also elemental damage, albeit at mid-range. Unlike the Bow, the Bowguns don’t have to charge their shots for maximum effectiveness. Instead, the Light Bowgun can stack damage due to its incredibly high firing rate.
Similarly to the Bow, the Bowguns have access to unlimited ammunition (normal, pierce, and spread). However, the elemental coatings are something you need to carry with you and can be exhausted. Thankfully, coatings can be crafted pretty easily. The Light Bowgun is great for the “quick fire and evade” playstyle, most effective during co-op.
It’s not a weapon that will help you stand your ground and deal damage to a monster. Instead, using the Light Bowgun, your primary objective will be to deal elemental damage using short burst attacks and then evade to a safe distance to reload. The Light Bowgun features a Rapid Fire Gauge, which allows you to use its rapid-fire combos. This gauge replenishes over time in Standard Mode or upon dealing damage to a target in Rapid Fire Mode. Here are the basic combos for the Light Bowgun in Monster Hunter Wilds:

Light Bowgun Offset and Focus Strikes in MH Wilds

Similarly to the Bow or the Charge Blade, the Light Bowgun doesn’t have a dedicated Offset Attack. This is par on course with the weapon’s associated playstyle. The Light Bowgun is designed to stack elemental damage and isn’t well-suited to knockback monsters. Although you can still inflict Exhaust on monsters using the Light Bowgun, you won’t be able to topple them.
Furthermore, due to how the combos for the Light Bowgun (or the Heavy Bowgun) work, these weapon types don’t have a Focus Strike either. Instead, you will have to rely on their regular or rapid-fire combos to deal damage to the wounds. Given you do have manual targeting for the Bowgun, it’s not a hassle.
The Light Bowgun’s Standard Mode does have a Focus Fire, Eagle Strike Shot. However, it’s part of its regular combo, which you can use to deal damage to a monster’s wounds.
Combos | Button Combinations (PlayStation/Xbox) |
---|---|
Eagle Strke Shot | Hold-L2 > R1/Hold-LT > RB |
The Light Bowgun, despite being fairly easy to use, isn’t a good choice for newcomers. However, it’s best used as a secondary weapon while playing MH Wilds in co-op.
