Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice did not have a single disappointing major boss fight. Every main battle was good enough to dethrone the one before it. The secret bosses are also well-designed, and the set-piece battle is one of the best in FromSoftware games.

We have ranked the top five battles in the game.

5) Divine Dragon

Out of all the gimmick boss battles in FromSoftware’s catalogue, the Divine Dragon reigns supreme. It is not just a visual spectacle, but the scale of this battle feels legendary. It almost feels like you’re actually taking on a dragon with the size difference in this fight. The music is well-orchestrated, and the gameplay gimmick behind the fight is also fun.

This fight does not rely too much on the deflection mechanic. It is still fun to dodge the Divine Dragon’s attacks and then make a comeback with lightning. The animation that plays when the player attacks the Dragon looks like something straight out of a superhero movie.

4) True Corrupted Monk

This is a battle of pure skill and satisfaction atop a beautiful bridge in the game. The True Corrupted Monk is a three-phase boss fight, and it does not overstay its welcome. Each phase gets tougher than the last. And the final phase is a true test of your parrying skills. The Monk’s attacks speed up to an unimaginable degree.

Once you get the boss’s pattern down, the fight almost feels like a dance. The player and the boss are both dancing in a test of perseverance. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice teaches you patience, and this fight is also a testament to that. That is exactly why beating the True Corrupted Monk feels so rewarding.

3) Genichiro Ashina

If there were a boss fight designed to teach you the core mechanics of the game, then nobody does it better than Genichiro Ashina. This boss fight is creative in a way that it is not only difficult but also prepares you for the challenges you are yet to face. Parrying attacks in a timely manner, performing mikiri counters, and reversing lightning attacks are all taught in this fight.

Sekiro forces you to learn the game mechanics against Genichiro. Otherwise, you’ll just be stuck in this boss battle forever. This fight either makes you quit, or you become good enough to experience one of the most memorable journeys ever.

2) Owl (Father)

Owl (Father) is a hidden boss in Sekiro, and he managed to provide a better experience than most of the main story boss fights. His boss fight consists of two phases, and both are extremely challenging. That does not take away anything from the fun because Owl’s attacks are fair, and his design tends to catch your every mistake.

Even a single mishap can cost you your entire run. Every parry and dodge needs to be perfect; otherwise, Owl will catch your lapses with deadly attacks. His second phase gets tougher to read when Owl starts teleporting around the arena. However, there comes a point when players will start predicting his movements through sheer practice.

1) Isshin: The Sword Saint

Finally, Isshin is considered to be one of the best video game final bosses in the community. Even Soulslike players agree that Sekiro has the best finale, and that is due to Isshin’s entire boss fight. The game tests everything that you’ve learned in your entire run in this final boss fight. Isshin has three phases, and every phase is designed to test the perfection players have achieved with the game’s mechanics.

The first phase tests your dodges and Mikiri counters. In the second phase, the game starts putting more emphasis on your perfect parries. And the final phase adds the lightning reversal to all of this. That is why Isshin is considered to be a great final boss because he’s a test of your entire playthrough in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
