Discover the five best bosses in the entire Devil May Cry series and what makes them so memorable and fun to fight.

As a series, Devil May Cry is mainly known for its flashy combos and iconic characters. The boss fights are something that is generally overlooked by many players, which is a shame, to say the least. Devil May Cry has many great bosses that test the player’s skill and have a lot of narrative depth, which deserve to be praised more. So, here are the five best bosses in Devil May Cry.
1. Vergil

Vergil is easily the face of the Devil May Cry franchise, alongside Dante himself. He is also the most recurring boss in the series, with a total of four appearances if we count just his normal state. Vergil is the only character that rivals Dante in the story, and his moveset proves it. His mastery over the Yamato, coupled with the Judgement Cut and his Devil Trigger, makes him one of the best bosses in Devil May Cry as a whole.
In order to beat him on higher difficulties, mastery of Dante’s stances, especially Royal Guard, is vital.
2. Nelo Angelo

After the events of Devil May Cry 3, Vergil becomes possessed by Mundus and turns into Nelo Angelo. In Devil May Cry 1, Dante runs into Nelo Angelo multiple times at Pallet Island. At first, Dante is confused as to who Nelo Angelo could be, as they are both equals in combat. However, after fighting Nelo Angelo for the third time, Dante defeats him and obtains Vergil’s amulet.
Now, Dante finally pieces everything together and realizes it was Vergil all along.
3. Urizen

After being defeated as Nelo Angelo, Vergil split himself into demonic and human halves. His demonic half, named Urizen, boasts power that surpasses Dante’s originally. However, after Dante obtains his Sin Devil Trigger, they clash yet again, and this time, Dante comes out on top. Urizen’s moveset is fun to play against; he utilizes many lasers and explosive attacks that require mastery of the Trickster and Royal Guard stances.
After Urizen is defeated, V eventually fulfills his purpose and rejoins with him, leading to Vergil’s proper return.
4. King Cerberus

The original Cerberus in Devil May Cry 3 became one of the most iconic bosses in the series, owing to Dante’s charisma. Dante’s witty remarks and his classic nunchucks flex after defeating Cerberus became one of his best moments. So, Capcom decided to introduce a bigger and better version of King Cerberus. They not only gave him a better moveset but also brought back Dante’s witty remarks as well.
After his defeat, Dante obtains yet another weapon that he showcases in a way that only he can do best.
5. Credo

Credo is one of the more underrated bosses in the Devil May Cry series, which is a surprise considering how good it is. The boss’s moveset is fun, but the main highlight is his design. Additionally, the arena where we fight him is also beautiful, adding to his angelic aesthetic, which is ironic considering he is using demonic power.
The fight also holds a lot of weight narratively, as Credo is like a mentor to Nero. Their clashing is bittersweet considering how close these two are, but it also showcases Nero’s growth. Additionally, Credo eventually sees the light and chooses to aid Nero one last time before passing away, pleading Dante to save him and Kyrie.
