Marvel Rivals took the world by storm when it dropped at the end of 2024. Introducing Marvel characters to the “Hero Shooter” format, the game was immediately adored by gamers. Most games called it the true successor to Overwatch, and for good reason.

If you love Marvel Rivals and want more games like it, then here are 5 of the best games that are exactly like it.

1) Overwatch 2

The original Overwatch put the “Hero Shooter” format on the map back in 2016, and it has become very popular since then. Marvel Rivals took a lot of inspiration from Overwatch in terms of how the game works. Many players jokingly say that Marvel Rivals is pretty much Overwatch with Marvel characters, except better.

As Overwatch also features the highly teamwork-oriented gameplay present in Marvel Rivals, players will love it.

2) Paladins

Paladins was the first real competition to Overwatch back in 2016. It features everything that is to be expected in a “Hero Shooter”. It has different characters, archetypes, and the same teamwork-oriented gameplay. Paladins is a great game for Rivals fans, but it may feel a bit dated as it is almost a decade old now. Additionally, the game is no longer receiving any new updates.

3) Apex Legends

While Apex Legends is a battle royale game with up to 60 players in one match, it still offers gameplay that players will find enjoyable. Apex offers up to 26 playable characters, however, some of them are locked behind a paywall. The elements of “Hero Shooters” are also present here in these characters called “Legends”. The reason is, that all of these legends have unique abilities.

However, unlike Marvel Rivals, players can also find and obtain various weapons scattered throughout the game. In addition, finding an advantageous location is also a big part of the gameplay.

4) Valorant

Valorant offers many heroes to choose from and has “team vs team” based gameplay. Similar to Apex, the game offers 26 playable characters. However, a majority of them have to be unlocked via in-game currency. As is the custom with hero shooters, each character has their own unique ability. The major difference from Marvel Rivals is that Valorant is a first-person shooter, and each character only has one life.

5) Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2 was one of the first few “Hero Shooter” type games that was released in 2007. It offers nine playable characters that have their own unique advantages and weapons. The core gameplay is “team vs team”, similar to Valorant, and both teams must complete objectives in order to secure victory. These objectives vary greatly between the different game modes in Team Fortress 2, allowing for a versatile experience.
