The Tekken series has been going on for decades now, spanning multiple games. As it is a fighting game, it is only natural that competitive tournaments are held for it. However, like any competitive game, some characters have clear advantages over the others, making them the most effective tactic available for competitive play. This prompted many players to pick these exclusive characters so they could have an easier time in tournaments.

In this list, we will be mentioning 5 of the most broken characters in Tekken history.

1. Jin Kazama – Tekken 4

After the events in the story of Tekken 3, Namco decided to rework Jin Kazama’s entire moveset, giving him Kyokushin Karate techniques. While these moves are beautifully animated, the developers could not balance them properly. Jin had a safe hellsweep, but his most overpowered technique was an unblockable that was completely unavoidable.

However this unblockable took some execution to perform, but it did not matter much. The reason is, all competitive players have great execution, so they could easily perform this technique. This led to everyone playing Jin in Tekken 4 tournaments.

2. Akuma – Tekken 7

The first guest character in Tekken 7, Akuma, broke the game entirely on arrival. Akuma had all of his Street Fighter mechanics in Tekken, including his jumps and overpowered damage from fast attacks. As no other character has these tools, they struggle to counter Akuma efficiently. Even after the developers nerfed Akuma thoroughly, he remained one of the strongest characters in the game.

Akuma was a prominent character in the competitive lifecycle of Tekken 7, and many pros saw a lot of success using him.

3. Steve Fox – Tekken 5

Steve Fox is one of the few characters who had an infinite in the Tekken series. In Tekken 5, if Steve sidestepped you even once, that round was pretty much lost. He could initiate an infinite attack after sidestepping you, which made him arguably the most broken character in Tekken history. As there were no patches back in the PlayStation 2, Steve Fox survived until the release of Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection.

Due to how overpowered he was, he quickly became a competitive player’s ideal choice for tournaments.

4. Lars Alexandersson – Tekken 6

Lars Alexandersson debuted as the new protagonist in Tekken 6 and thus got the protagonist treatment from the developers. He was incredibly easy to play, had broken safe moves, and his combo damage was very high. Throughout the competitive lifecycle of Tekken 6, tournament players either picked Bob or Lars, making the competition incredibly stale.

While Bob is stronger, we put Lars on this list as he is the easier character to pilot.

5. Leroy Smith – Tekken 7

Leroy Smith is the most infamous character in the history of Tekken 7, perhaps even more so than Akuma. Before release, Leroy had players incredibly hyped due to his unique design and moveset. However, as soon as Leroy dropped, fans were horrified to see that he had almost every broken move a character could have. From fast counterhits to range-neutral buttons to high damage, he had it all.

This led to the infamous EVO Japan Top 8, where six out of eight players were playing Leroy Smith. Even after Leroy nerfed multiple nerfs, he remained a strong competitive character.
