So, if you weren’t able to get some of your wishlisted games during the previous sale, now is a good time to do so.

We’ve created a list of some of the best Steam games that are being offered with huge discounts as of January 23, 2025. The Best Discounted Steam Games in January 2025

1. Assassin’s Creed Rogue

If you’re an Assassin’s Creed fan and you loved the North American saga, you should definitely buy this game. Rogue is probably the most underrated Assassin’s Creed title, and for many reasons. This title was overshadowed by AC Unity and wasn’t promoted as much. This is because Unity made the jump to a new console generation, had improved graphics, and an updated engine, with a completely different timeline and setting.

Meanwhile, Rogue is almost identical to Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag in terms of gameplay and graphics, and the story takes place in North America again, even bringing back some characters from AC III. The game is also quite short in comparison to a mainline AC title, and despite all this, it cost the same as Unity ($60) on launch.

Nevertheless, you should give Rogue a try if you really like Assassin’s Creed or simply want a completely different perspective on the series. This game lets you play as a Templar, exploring the flaws in the Assassin’s creed itself. It might even make you question if the Assassins are really the ‘good guys’ they’re usually portrayed as. It should be noted that Rogue was developed within just eight months, so what we have here is nothing short of phenomenal.

2. Torment: Tides of Numenera

Planescape Torment is widely regarded as one of the best RPGs ever created. The game doesn’t have the in-depth gameplay mechanics and customization you usually find in CRPGs. However, it’s the story that makes Planescape Torment an unforgettable experience. Torment: Tides of Numenera is a spiritual successor to Planescape Torment, although the setting here is different.

If you’re bored with the usual high fantasy settings in most fantasy RPGs, you might like Torment: Tides of Numenera. This game has a ‘science fantasy’ setting, which blends the realms of science fiction with fantasy. Much like Planescape, combat is a secondary aspect of the game.Your character’s personality and even their class depend on your interaction with the world. The protagonist is a human who was host to a powerful being who has since abandoned them.

There are the basic starting classes here—warrior, wizard, and rogue. You can then branch off with some additional descriptors, abilities, and so on. However, as stated before, combat is quite simple and doesn’t require much min-maxing. The entire focus is on the storyline, the dialogue tree, and how the world reacts to your choices.

3. Way of the Samurai 3

There are plenty of samurai games, but very few are like Way of the Samurai 3. The game is heavily based on replayability because there are a total of 22 different endings, which are decided by your dialogue and action choices. To encourage replayability, every new playthrough is like a New Game+ mode because you retain all your items and stats.

With each playthrough, you’ll get one of 50 different titles. You can also use your total samurai points towards more customization (new heads and clothes) and even abilities. The story is set during the Sengoku period with a tyrannical feudal lord burdening his subjects with taxes. The explorable open-world map is small, but there’s a lot to do here, with different unique NPCs to find.

There are countless weapons and even weapon parts that let you create your own swords and spears. All of these are upgradable. You also have a safehouse and different mini-games ranging from beating up thieves and killing people to chopping vegetables and looking after a dog.

4. Outward Definitive Edition

If you want a classic dungeon-crawling RPG with modern graphics, intuitive gameplay, and a truly alien world, you should play Outward. This is also a survival RPG, so you need to take care of your hunger and thirst while making sure you aren’t too cold or tired out. Outward thrives on the challenge, so players who enjoy soulslikes might like this one. You can’t savescum at all, and if you lose a mission, it can permanently alter the game world.

Dying isn’t a thing, either, as long as you aren’t playing with permadeath on. Apart from losing your mission, you might get imprisoned or even nursed back to health by some NPC. If magic is your favorite aspect of high fantasy RPGs, then you’ll definitely love Outward. Magic is where the game truly shines, but getting access to it is difficult. Spells by themselves don’t do much, so you need to combine them for devastating attacks.

There’s no leveling system in Outward, so it’s all dependent on your gear. In addition, there’s no fast travel and no minimap. So, you’ll be spending a lot of time walking and trying to figure out a location from the various landmarks in the game world.

5. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands

Ghost Recon Wildlands is an open-world title in the Ghost Recon series that lets you control a team of Ghosts as they try to take down a ruthless cartel in Bolivia. Being a Ghost Recon game, it’s a tactical shooter at heart, although it’s played from a third-person perspective. There are countless weapons, vehicles, and even some unique equipment you can try out.

The side missions are quite fun, and they range from stealing supply vehicles to defending a rebel broadcast. The main storyline is quite satisfying as well. You’ve been sent to Bolivia to take down the Santa Blanca cartel, which is run by the enigmatic El Sueno, a ruthless tyrant who has attained god-like status in the country.

Ghost Recon Wildlands gives you the freedom to go where you want to in the massive and beautiful open-world map and start liberating each region in whatever order you prefer.

6. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – Anniversary Edition

The WH40K Universe has exploded in popularity in recent years, but it wasn’t always as popular. The early 2000s saw the rise of many RTS titles, and Dawn of War was undoubtedly one of the most unique. For many gamers, this was their introduction to the grimdark universe. The familiar RTS mechanics, coupled with captivating storylines and several unique, satisfying campaigns in the base game and all the expansions, is what made it so appealing.

With Dawn of War II, the series took a much different turn. This time, instead of capturing resources on the battlefield and churning out armies constantly, you deploy with a small team. The storyline follows an elite strike force of Space Marines and is much more tactical than before. You can upgrade your soldiers through a satisfying progression system and make use of the map and its destructive environment.

While Dawn of War II doesn’t have as many playable factions or the diverse scenarios like its predecessor, it’s a completely unique experience altogether.

7. Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition

Relive history by building your own cities. (Source: Microsoft)

The Age of Empires series needs no introduction to RTS fans. Microsoft’s historical strategy game series is one of the most recognizable ones in this genre, and for good reason. The game has a simple learning curve, but mastering it, especially for competitive play, takes a lot of skill and experience. Age of Empires IV is the latest title in the series, and it revitalizes several mechanics from its predecessors.

AoE IV doesn’t have as many factions as AoE II, but there are some key changes that improve combat and gameplay. For instance, hill bonuses are gone, but arrows and other projectiles now work like homing missiles, which makes combat less tedious.

In addition, gameplay differs drastically depending on the civilization you choose to play as. The Mongols, for example, can move their bases, being a nomadic faction. Individual units have their own abilities as well, such as a charge attack that comes with a cooldown.
