Should You Return to Battlefield 2042 in 2025?
The Multiplayer Aspect
Unlike Battlefield 1, the last installment in the franchise wasn’t as well received. Unfortunately, the multiplayer aspect didn’t last long. So, even in 2025, Battlefield 2042 can almost be considered “dead.” The 24-hour peak on Steam at the time of writing this article was 9,401 players.
The players aren’t that few, but it is sure to give you some matchmaking troubles based on your region and play timings. The game’s campaign will eventually bore you if you play it too many times. Hence, you can’t play it endlessly. So, if you consider jumping back into Battlefield 2042, remember that the multiplayer aspect of the game could disappoint you.

Visuals and Audio
DICE did not miss when it came to the game’s aesthetics. They kept the game’s setting hyper-modern (with sci-fi elements) and made it pretty polished. The audio of the game is also quite impactful. Every playthrough will make you feel immersed in a modern battlefield.
So, if you are a fan of the classic Battlefield aesthetic, whether visual or audial, you will find 2042 just as worthy. However, if these unique visuals and audio effects don’t interest you, then this installment may not be suitable for you.
Battlefield 2042 Has a Slower Gameplay
If you are used to the quick multiplayer matches in Call of Duty, then you will find Battlefield matches lengthy. They usually contain large-scale objectives and can be highly tactical. Unlike the classic CoD multiplayer experience, Battlefield 2042 won’t let you rush to a point. You will often find yourself struggling to get there.
This immersion is exactly what sets this franchise apart from Activision’s military shooter IP. But it is surely an acquired taste, which you might not find appealing at all. The matchmaking can be a bit tiresome, but if you can deal with the shortcomings, Battlefield 2042 may be worth your time in 2025!
