Players who are aware of how unforgiving rogue-lite games can be know that they need some tips for Hyper Light Breaker before starting. The game has released in Early Access, and people are preparing to experience the Overgrowth on their own.

It will probably take you a long time before you pay the Abyss King a visit. So, in the meantime, let’s learn some things that you should and should not do on each run you begin in the new Hyper Light game.

NOTE: The tips below are subject to the writer’s opinions. They are not ranked in any way and don’t contain all the tips to make you ace the game right away.

1. You Are Not Invincible

This is a rogue-lite game—treat it like one! You will start off each run with five resurrects. All your progress will reset once you are out of lives, so you should be well aware that your character isn’t invincible. Moreover, don’t treat your Breaker like the god of the Overgrowth either. The best tip we can give you is not to go around picking fights with every enemy out there, especially when starting off.

Save your HP, skills, and “gamer focus” for fights that are necessary for completing your short-term goals. Sure, picking some fights can grant you some loot, but they are not always worth the risk of losing a resurrection. After all, these are only limited.

2. Don’t Be Ashamed To Extract

A feature that is not present in every rogue-lite game is extraction. Fortunately, Hyper Light Breaker has this feature to keep players from risking too much. So, a tip for all the Hyper Light Breaker players out there is to use this extraction mechanic. If you grab something on your run and wish to keep it safe, extraction is your best bet.

Don’t forget that each of your runs begins with a timer. As it keeps expiring, the Overgrowth will become more dangerous. You will eventually either lose a life on the map or have to exfil. The latter is the better option.

3. Plan Your Runs

One tip that all Hyper Light players should keep in mind is that planning is the best approach in this game. Every time a run resets, for example, after you lose all your resurrections, the map is also generated anew. So, while you still have lives left, thanks to the extracting mechanic, we suggest that you make a plan.

Make short-term goals. Try going for a certain amount of prisms before extracting. You won’t benefit from rushing the game. Mindless speedruns will only frustrate you. So, keep a short plan in mind and expand it as you get more friendly Breakers to accompany you or gain more confidence in your build.

4. Don’t Try Exploring Everything Right Away

As we mentioned above, Overgrowth does not let people stay there for long. So, during a run, there’s only so much time that you can spend in the world. The meter on the top left will tell you how much time you have left on your hands. Unfortunately, it’s not enough for you to explore the entire world right away. But that is okay!

Be patient and stick to the plan we advised you to come up with. You will eventually get to explore it all. On the contrary, if you rush and run out of lives, the island will reset, and you will have to start it all in a brand-new world.

5. Prioritize Exploration Over Boss Fights

It will be a long time before you get to the Abyss King. Before that final boss fight, though, you will cross paths with Crowns. These are the primary bosses you will find on the map. One thing to remember is that you won’t unlock them without prisms. While getting the latter is a task in itself, unlocking a Crown battle does not mean that you are ready for that fight yet.

So, prioritize exploring over boss fights. Crowns won’t go anywhere. As long as you are following the rest of the tips we mentioned, you are safe from losing those resurrects. Hence, it is safe to say that those Crowns will stay where they are. In the meantime, explore the map gradually and systematically. Gather all the loot, create a stronger build, and then go for a Crown at last.
