Twitch streamer Jason “Thor” Hall, popularly known as Pirate Software, was recently accused of cheating in the game Outer Wilds. A viral clip from a recent livestream shows the streamer looking at his phone before solving a puzzle.

During Pirate’s livestream on January 19, 2025, his viewers asked him if he was cheating in the clip. The streamer denied all allegations and claimed that he was just playing Monster Hunter on his phone while streaming.

He also added that cheating in games like Outer Wilds “ruins” the experience for players. Pirate Software is also facing accusations of cheating in Animal Well. Streamer AlbinoLIVE accused Pirate of looking up guides before his playthrough. Pirate discovered the secret developer ending in Animal Well that took the community weeks to discover, which raised suspicions among his viewers.

Pirate Software’s Response to Outer Wilds Controversy

One of Pirate Software’s viewers brought up the recent allegations and said:

“You were typing and they assumed you were Googling.”

Pirate responded to the allegations by saying:

“No? I was probably playing Monster Hunter. Like, I’ve been playing that sh*t on phone for ages. I just keep it right here. Unless I was typing to somebody or texting to somebody, I don’t freaking know. I’ll have to see what the hell you’re talking about. Like, the whole point of playing that game is if you look anything up or you watch anyone else play it, it ruins it.”

After other viewers brought up the allegations multiple times, Pirate said:

“Bro, we played it all live on stream. Alright, bud? That’s a wild *ss thing to say, what the hell?”

Streamers and viewers accused Pirate of cheating in not just Outer Wilds but also Animal Well. The streamer found a developer ending in Animal Well in his first playthrough that took the community weeks to find.

Multiple Streamers Accused Pirate of Cheating

Twitch streamer and political commentator Steven “Destiny” Bonnell saw Pirate’s stream and said:

“There’s no way that he would be so blatant about it though, right? He is clearly looking at his phone right now. There’s no way he would just go right now and instantly solve it. Like, he would at least fake trying to figure it out for a minute or two, right?”

Another streamer, Brandon “Altrioc” Ewing, pointed out that Pirate Software comments on things in single-player games before they happen. Alrioc thinks that he watches playthroughs or guides and knows how to clear puzzles very quickly.

Streamer AlbinoLIVE commented in a YouTuber stream that Pirate Software was likely not cheating in Outer Wilds. He said that while Pirate’s Animal Well playthrough was suspicious, Outer Wilds is an “easier” game, and Pirate could have solved the puzzles quickly without help.
