GamersNexus called out Linus Tech Tips for alleged plagiarism, data inaccuracy, and unprofessional communication.
Tech journalism group GamersNexus and its founder Steve Burke raised several allegations against fellow content creator Linus Tech Tips and its founder Linus Sebastian. Steve and Linus have had a public disagreement with each other since 2023. Burke called out Linus Tech Tips for alleged plagiarism, unprofessional communication, and failure to resolve data accuracy issues.
On January 17, 2025, Linus Tech Tips asked GamersNexus to produce evidence to support their claims. Burke responded with a lengthy blog post on January 21, 2025. Burke produced receipts to substantiate his accusations.
The blog post contains screenshots of emails dating back to 2022 that show correspondence between both parties. The screenshots highlight conversations between GamersNexus and Linus Tech Tips where they discuss alleged plagiarism in Linus’ videos. Burke criticized Linus for not publicly acknowledging the issues in three years. He also provided screenshots of data errors and examples of “aggressive communication.”
GamersNexus Calls Out Linus Tech Tips for Alleged Plagiarism
Burke’s blog post references a September 2022 incident involving hardware manufacturer EVGA. The company backed out of the consumer graphics card market in 2022, and GamersNexus covered the story on August 12, 2022. Shortly after Burke’s video was published, Linus Tech Tips’ WAN Show podcast covered the same topic with an allegedly identical script.
Burke posted screenshots of his emails with Linus Sebastian and stated:
“GamersNexus reached out privately and in good faith to inform Linus Tech Tips of this serious issue. The expectation was that LTT/LMG would resolve it satisfactorily and inform the public of any wrongdoing. The public was never informed, and GamersNexus was never attributed.”
Burke said he is open to meeting Linus Sebastian or Linus Media Group’s Chief Technical Officer Luke Lafreniere in May. He expressed a willingness to book a meeting room and discuss matters in private at the annual Computex event.
Burke Calls Out Linus Tech Tips’ “Unprofessional Communication”
Burke posted screenshots of a conversation between Linus Sebastian and himself where Linus allegedly said:
“I’ll reiterate that you’re not a 2-bit channel. And it would not be good to consider the kind of brigading your actions can create in the future.”
In other messages, Linus is allegedly seen using words like “f*cking” and “ret*rded” in a text chain. Burke criticized the communication as “unprofessional.” He wrote in his blog:
“GamersNexus believes that these “receipts” answer the demand to provide them to support our statements that Sebastian has a history of unprofessionalism in prior communications while still maintaining the maximum possible integrity of the privacy of the conversations. If publicly requested by Linus Sebastian to produce further evidence, GamersNexus is prepared to publicly do so.”
Burke also accused Linus of mischaracterizing events. He wrote:
“Substantial evidence exists, and we are prepared to provide more upon Sebastian’s public request, to demonstrate that Linus Sebastian has been aware of and has actively engaged with Steve’s correct phone number for at least two years preceding the message shared on January 17, 2025. This is a mischaracterization of the actual events.”
Linus Sebastian or other representatives from Linus Media Group/Linus Tech Tips have not responded to Burke’s accusations so far. Burke invited them to resolve the conflict between both parties privately and is awaiting a response.
