The Hammer in Monster Hunter Wilds is an incredibly powerful weapon type. Not only does it deal a lot of damage with its regular combos, but it happens to have one of the easiest and most efficient charged combos in the entire Monster Hunter roster. Much like the Great Sword, the Hammer isn’t complicated with additional gauges, apart from Sharpness. Furthermore, while it lacks the single-hit damage output of the Great Sword, the Hammer can deal incredibly high amounts of damage (often surpassing the Great Sword’s TCS) with its Big Bang combos.

On top of that, the Hammer doesn’t compromise on agility. It’s one of the few weapons in Monster Hunter that allows charging attacks while you’re mobile on the battlefield. Although it’s not a complex weapon, it certainly requires a bit of practice to get the most out of it. Thankfully, the Hammer’s combos are quite easy to keep track of, and it has also received some major improvements in MH Wilds.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Hammer in Monster Hunter Wilds, including its combos, skills, and more.

How To Use Hammer in Monster Hunter Wilds?

The Hammer is a weapon that excels in the “hit-and-run” playstyle. You’re essentially encouraged to dish out damage in a single combo and then immediately fall back to charge your next attack. Furthermore, unlike in the case of the Great Sword, the Hammer doesn’t force you to plant yourself at a single location for too long. Unfortunately, unlike the Great Sword, the Hammer doesn’t have any defensive capabilities. However, since you can stay mobile while charging the Hammer, it’s not an issue. The weapon’s primary moveset includes just the Big Bang and Charge combos.

However, to land a successful Brutal Big Bang combo, you will need to land a successful hit using the wind-up attacks. Furthermore, the Hammer also has different attacks based on the charge levels. You can get to the Brutal Big Bang at Charge Level 3, which dishes out a ton of damage, or you can choose to transition to a Spinning Bludgeon at Charge Level 2. Hammer Offset and Focus Strike in Monster Hunter Wilds

Unlike the Great Sword or other melee weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds, the Hammer doesn’t have an Offset Attack. This is because the Hammer’s regular upswing attacks and Big Bang combos, by default, can be used to counter and also deal knockback (KO) damage to monsters. The Hammer is incredibly efficient when it comes to breaking monster parts.

You can further enhance this ability with Partbreaker skills. Although it lacks a dedicated Offset ability, the Hammer does have a Focus Strike. The Focus Strike/Focus Blow is called Earthquake and is a sweeping smash attack that deals a ton of damage.

The Hammer is a great option for not only returning Monster Hunter players but also newcomers. The combos for the weapon are easy to learn but with enough depth to keep you invested in the long term. Furthermore, it also doesn’t have any of the added complexity of Reloads, Phials, or Charges. You just need to keep an eye on the Sharpness gauge and learn the charge timings for the weapon. Also, its hit-and-run playstyle lends itself perfectly as a low-commitment weapon. Although timing your attacks is crucial with a Hammer, it’s not a necessity.
