Phoenix has been one of the mainstays of the Final Fantasy games since its debut in Final Fantasy V. As per tradition, it makes an appearance in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth as well. In Rebirth, Phoenix can be fought as a boss in the combat simulator. Afterwards, you can summon Phoenix in combat.

Phoenix is the second summon that can be unlocked by fighting in the combat simulator after Titan.

You can fight Phoenix in the Junon region during Chapter 4 when you exit the Mythril Mine and meet Chadley again. Talking to Chadley will unlock Phoenix in the combat simulator, along with its divine intel.

Completing the tasks present at the three Divine Sanctuaries of Phoenix will reduce the difficulty of Phoenix for each one. This will also upgrade the Phoenix summoning Materia and allow Phoenix to use the moves Reraise and Arise.

Completing these tasks should be prioritized if you are at a lower level.

Completing all of the Divine Sanctuaries for Phoenix will cut Phoenix’s HP by nearly half. Using Assess on the creature reveals many of its strengths, weaknesses, and its style of attacking.

Phoenix is weak to Ice, has a lesser resistance to Poison, and absorbs Fire. Additionally, it is immune to Proportional Damage,  Berserk, Slow, Silence, Sleep, Stop, Stone, Petrify, and Morphable Items

Phoenix begins the battle by using Flame of Life to summon three orbs and then uses Breath of Creation to summon enemies from the orbs. While these creatures are alive, Phoenix is invulnerable. Once these summons are vanquished, Phoenix will become vulnerable and will be weak to Ice.

Occasionally, Phoenix will use a move called Empowering Flame to supercharge itself. Dealing enough damage during this attack will interrupt and Pressure Phoenix. If Phoenix is able to use Empowering Flame without being interrupted twice in a row, it will use Rebirth Flame to restore some HP.

Cloud, Tifa, and Barrett are good picks for this battle. It is recommended to equip Healing Materia, on all the party members as you cannot use items in the combat simulator. Ice Materia is also excellent for this battle.

The summon Titan can be unlocked before Phoenix and is recommended for this battle. Barrett’s high ATB Charge Rate allows you to use abilities from Titan at a faster speed.

Defeat Phoenix’s minions and prevent it from strengthening and healing by keeping up the pressure. Doing this while avoiding Phoenix’s powerful attacks will soon see Phoenix’s flames extinguished.
