The Dual Blades in Monster Hunter Wilds are a force to be reckoned with. The weapon type was already incredibly powerful in the past entries of the series, i.e., MH World and Rise. However, in MH Wilds, the Dual Blades have received significant improvements, making them an incredibly potent choice as a starter weapon.

The true source of strength for the Dual Blades has always been the Demon Mode and the combos associated with it. In Monster Hunter Rise, Capcom enhanced the Archdemon Mode as well. However, it was nowhere near as powerful as the regular Demon Mode and Blade Dance 3. This somewhat defeated the purpose of Archdemon Mode.

However, with Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom seems to have made Archdemon Mode equally as effective as the Demon Mode. In fact, you’re incentivized to stay in Archdemon Mode in MH Wilds due to the new Demon Dodge mechanic. Here’s everything you need to know about the Dual Blades in Monster Hunter Wilds.

How To Use the Dual Blades in Monster Hunter Wilds?

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Dual Blades retain all its move sets from MH World and Rise, save for the Wirebug skills, for obvious reasons. The Dual Blades are incredibly fast weapons, capable of stacking enormous amounts of damage via multi-hit combos.

Although the most effective combo is the Blade Dance, the regular attacks of the weapon also dish out good damage. However, much like the Great Sword, Dual Blades require good knowledge of not only the weapon but also the monster you’re hunting. Your primary goal with the Dual Blades is to target the monster’s weak points and create wounds, which you can then strike down with the Turning Tide (Focus Strike).

Much like the Charge Blade, the Dual Blades excel at elemental damage. Although you can technically make the Dual Blades work with raw damage, it’s not going to be as effective as elemental since the weapon’s base damage output is quite low.

As such, you’d want to keep multiple Dual Blades loadouts handy, each for a different elemental affinity. Due to the weapon’ fast attacks, it’s incredibly easy to stack elemental damage using the Dual Blades. However, due to its nimble nature, the Dual Blades lack any active defensive skill.

However, in MH Wilds, the weapon does come with a fairly efficient defensive ability – the Demon Dodge. Here’s a look at all the basic combos for the Dual Blades:

Unlike some of the other melee weapons, the Dual Blades doesn’t have any Offset Attack. This is because the Dual Blades cannot deal enough KO (knockdown) damage to monsters with their regular attacks. However, you can easily counter a monster’s incoming attack with a Demon Dodge, followed by a Spinning Slash.

Furthermore, the Dual Blades does have a Focus Strike ability – Turning Tide. The Focus Strike is best used to deal damage to wounds, as well as even topple monsters, granted you have appropriate skills for that (Slugger). Here’s a look at the Focus Strike combos for the Dual Blades in Monster Hunter Wilds:

Turning TideL2+R1/LT+RB

Turning Tide not only lets you inflict damage to wounds, but it also acts as an incredibly efficient gap-closer. The Dual Blades in Monster Hunter Wilds are incredibly powerful. The new Demon Dodge skill alone makes the weapon a potent choice for newcomers.

Demon Dodge not only allows you to negate damage if timed right but also grants you a temporary attack power buff. Pairing this with the weapon’s elemental affinity makes the Dual Blades incredibly potent against Large Monsters, especially those with elemental weaknesses.
