Following the Monster Hunter Wilds’ first open beta held in November, the second open beta (OBT 2) has started recently. It was split into two parts, with Part 1 having just concluded. OBT 2 introduces new features and content from OBT 1, including optional quests featuring the flagship monster Arkveld, the returning monster Gypceros, and a new training area.

However, along with these new additions, OBT 2 also brought back one of the most nightmarish yet hilarious bugs from OBT 1, the Polygon issue. This transforms your favorite characters like Alma into disfigured beings and turns large monsters into squishy, polygonal shapes. Learn more about the Polygon issue and the possible ways to fix it in Monster Hunter Wilds.

What Exactly Is the Monster Hunter Wilds Polygon Issue?

If you are seeing things in Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds beta that you shouldn’t—such as low poly NPCs or massive polygonal structures in place of monsters—you are not alone. It is a prevalent issue faced by many players, which first appeared in OBT 1 and has persisted in OBT 2. It is likely triggered by the faults in shaders and textures precompilation. Additionally, sharing lobbies with a large number of players may contribute to the problem due to the heavy load on the GPU.

While it may seem funny, the Polygon issue can significantly impact gameplay, particularly when using the new Focus Mode. It prevents players from identifying weak points or wounds on monsters due to their blocky, distorted appearance.

However, it is important to note that the beta version uses an old build. Capcom has confirmed that all known issues will be fixed in the latest development build and that the final release will feature improved performance and mechanics. They also stated that the beta build will not include these improvements and adjustments.

Possible Fixes To Get Rid of the Monster Hunter Wilds Polygon Issue

Capcom is actively preparing for the full launch of Monster Hunter Wilds on February 28, 2025, aiming to provide a smooth and polished gameplay experience. While the first phase of OBT 2 has ended, the polygon issue may still reappear in the second phase and potentially mar the gameplay experience. Although the full launch will resolve these graphical glitches, players may still need to deal with them during the upcoming second phase of the OBT 2

Here are a few possible ways to fix it. Lower your graphic resolution setting to ‘Low’ or ‘Lowest’ and wait for a while. This significantly reduces the graphics load, allowing space for the GPU to load all the textures and shaders properly. Once everything is loaded, these Polygonal figures should disappear. Then, you can try to increase your resolution to High or Ultra for a better visual experience.

Updating the graphic drivers and verifying the files potentially resolve the issue. If you are playing on a low-end PC, use the Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark Tool to find a suitable preset by analyzing the performance.
