There are a bunch of ways to spend Influence in Civilization 7, but you will be using this currency mostly to befriend nations. You can befriend an Independent Power by spending 85 Influence, which will then turn it into a friendly City-State. Don’t worry about spending too much, as you earn Influence on a per-turn basis (10 per turn).

Apart from befriending an Independent Power, the other main ways of using Influence are as follows:

  • Endeavors: These are collaborative actions that see you and another nation working together on any project or aiding each other. Endeavors include research collaborations, sending military aid, reconciliation, and more.
  • Sanctions: If you feel a nation is slipping out of hand and becoming too hostile, you can impose penalties in the form of sanctions. Take note that doing so will negatively impact your ties with the nation you sanction.
  • Treaties: Treaties are agreements that come into play when things are seemingly slipping out of hand. Essentially a band-aid solution, these treaties include enforcing open borders and improving trade relations.
  • Espionage: Espionage sees you infiltrating another nation to steal information and technology. The tech will help you thrive, but if you’re caught, be prepared for severe consequences.
  • War Support: You can use Influence to affect the War Weariness of the nation you are at war with. This will negatively impact the happiness and morale of the citizens of the other nation while positively impacting yours.
