As you start your journey in Civilization 7, you will find yourself alone on the continent. With the help of scouts, you will then set out to explore these lands to discover the secrets they hold. Your discovery will inevitably lead you to another small settlement. These Independent People, too, are living on your continent, looking to survive and thrive much like you are.
Once you encounter these Independent People, there are two ways you can go about dealing with them. One way sees you befriending them, getting them on your side, establishing trade routes, and much more. This method allows both powers to thrive in unison, all while enjoying the fruits of peace. The other way is a more radical solution and involves attacking and dispersing these people with the might of your military. Both ways are viable, and the option you choose depends on how you wish to expand your empire.
If you’ve stumbled across an Independent Power and wish to know more about how to interact with them, our guide has you covered. In this guide, we shall go over how to interact with Independent People in Civilization 7.

As stated earlier, there are two main ways to interact with Independent People in Civilization 7. The first is to befriend them, and the other is to attack and disperse their village. Befriending Independent People in the game costs you about 85 Influence and lets you become their Suzerain if you’re the first to befriend them. The Independent People will then turn into a City-State over the course of the next ten turns.
Attacking and dispersing their village is a hostile approach and will lead to the Independent People being eradicated entirely. You can do so by sending your Army Units over to the Independent People’s village and then selecting the “Disperse” option in the Unit Submenu. Your army will then proceed to disperse the village and clear it out for you. This option is best used if the Independent People are hostile toward you. If the side is neutral, we recommend befriending them as it allows you to establish trade and open up new opportunities.
