In 2018, Gege Akutami’s manga Jujutsu Kaisen was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump for people to read. The show follows Itadori as he tries to use his new powers to protect people from evil spirits called curses. In the show, there are a lot of different people with different powers. Some are weak, like Grade 3 sorcerers, while others are powerful, like Gojo.

Among these characters is Miguel, a sorcerer from another country who doesn’t get much screen time but is very powerful. Even though he only appears briefly in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Miguel proves he’s someone to watch. This article will look at Miguel’s background, his abilities, and his special techniques to see just how strong he really is.

Who is Miguel, and what is his role?

Miguel Oduol is a sorcerer from Kenya, an African country. This sets him apart from many of the other sorcerers in the series, who typically come from Japan. He shows up in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 as a hired fighter for Suguru Geto, who is the main antagonist in the movie.

Unlike Geto’s loyal followers, Miguel was not head over heels for him. Although he wanted to see Geto succeed, he did not share Geto’s views on non-sorcerers. When Geto was alive, Miguel was loyal to him and even took on the strongest sorcerer, Gojo, for the sake of his plans.

After the fight, Gojo acknowledged Miguel as a sorcerer and sort of forced him to take Okkotsu Yuta as his student. Miguel took Yuta to Kenya and trained him on his cursed energy usage. Gojo trusting Miguel with Yuta just goes to show how much he rated Miguel’s skills in the fight that they had. This change from being an enemy to a teacher indicates his understanding of cursed energy and its applications.

Battle Against Gojo

Miguel’s most impressive accomplishment is undoubtedly his fight with Gojo Satoru in the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons Arc. While the outcome was inevitable considering his opponent was the strongest character in the show, he fought and lived to tell the tale.

But Miguel not only survives the fight. He also managed to slow Gojo down for a little while. This achievement puts him in a special group of very few sorcerers. Most others would be defeated right away by someone with the Six Eyes and Limitless technique.

During the fight, Miguel uses a special tool called the Black Rope. This rope can stop cursed techniques from working, which is why it’s so effective against Gojo. Even Gojo acknowledges that the rope irritates him, something he hardly ever says about his opponents. Even though Miguel lost the fight, his strength and intelligence are clear from the fact that he lasted that long against Gojo.

Miguel as a Fighter

Miguel’s cursed techniques make him not just powerful but also buff him physically. His physique grants him power, speed, and endurance. Because of this, he is good at hand-to-hand combat, as he can fight with his body rather than solely using cursed energy.

Miguel’s ability to withstand Gojo’s attacks is the best example to prove his toughness. After one hit from Gojo, most people would be knocked out or worse. But Miguel took a lot of blows from Gojo and was still fighting. This shows his durability, which comes from his physical training and his ability to use cursed energy to protect himself.

When it comes to fighting, Miguel is also quite intelligent. He can think quickly and come up with plans to counter stronger opponents. Like in his fight against Gojo, he focuses on avoiding hits and slowing down Gojo with his Black Rope rather than attempting to beat him.

Miguel’s Cursed Technique

Miguel’s main weapon is the Black Rope, an offensive cursed tool that can stop cursed techniques from working. This makes it really useful in fights against sorcerers who rely mainly on their cursed energy. The rope disrupts the flow of cursed energy, which levels the playing field when fighting someone with a lot of cursed energy.

The Black Rope is so powerful that it even worked against Gojo for a short time. This is a big deal because Gojo’s techniques are almost impossible to counter. Gojo’s Infinity makes it impossible for anything to make contact with him unless he wants it to.

The Black Rope was able to nullify his Infinity, which allowed Miguel to deal physical damage to him. He also has another technique called Prayer Song. Using this, he can boost his strength and repel curses by following a natural rhythm in his body.

While the Black Rope was destroyed during his fight with Gojo, Miguel’s expertise with it suggests he may know about more rare, cursed tools or techniques. His usage of a cursed tool as a primary weapon shows that one’s manipulation of cursed energy is not the only way to be strong in Jujutsu Kaisen.

This can be seen in other prominent characters in the show, like Maki and Toji, who are also very powerful. By specializing in the Black Rope, Miguel developed a combat approach that could go toe-to-toe with the strongest in the show.

Miguel’s Relationship With Yuta Okkotsu

After Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Gojo gave the responsibility of training Yuta to Miguel. Since Miguel had nothing holding him down in Japan, he went back to Kenya, and Yuta followed him. For Yuta, this is a big opportunity to learn how to use his abilities from another culture. But Yuta was not a beginner sorcerer. He was a special-grade sorcerer with potential and a fair share of experience too.

Miguel becoming his teacher meant that he was a knowledgeable person about cursed energy. When they came back from Kenya, it was clear that Yuta had gotten a lot stronger and had more control over his cursed energy.

This mentor-student relationship between Miguel and Yuta was actually very good as they got along well with each other. Miguel as a teacher also shows that the Japanese and the Africans have different methods of improving as sorcerers. His ability to help Yuta develop his abilities indicates a deep understanding of how cursed energy works and how different techniques can be refined and improved.

Conclusion

Miguel is a unique character in Jujutsu Kaisen. He may not have the same kind of overwhelming power as Gojo or Yuta, but he makes up for it with his physical strength, smart fighting strategies, and mastery of the Black Rope. His ability to survive a fight against Gojo, his role as Yuta’s teacher, and his skill with cursed tools all prove that he’s one of the strongest sorcerers in the series.

What makes Miguel special is that he doesn’t rely on just one thing to be strong. He uses his body, his mind, and his tools to fight in a way that makes him stand out. Even though he doesn’t get much screen time, Miguel is a character who shows that there’s more than one way to be powerful in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.
