What is the latest update about Loot Boxes in Overwatch 2? Learn more about this feature and whether it is good or bad.

Overwatch 2 is bringing back “Loot Boxes.” Those who are not familiar with the franchise may be a little confused with this concept. Don’t worry though; we will get you up to speed with it. All of this started back in the original Overwatch when the franchise was at its peak, touching new records. Since it was a live service model, they had to include something for the players who downloaded Overwatch because it is a free-to-play game.
Loot Boxes were essentially a way to keep people hyped up for all the cool cosmetics. Once you leveled up in the original game, you would get a Loot Box, hope it would contain your favorite costume, and open it right away. Depending on your luck, you may or may not have gotten what you wanted. However, those who tried increasing their chances or did not want to grind enough to progress through levels could also buy these Loot Boxes.
Overwatch 2 completely overhauled the game’s monetization. It excluded Loot Boxes completely, so the players had to rely on the in-game and real-life currencies to buy something. This is one of the many criticisms about the game. But now, the Loot Box system is coming back a bit nuanced.

The official Overwatch 2 page on Twitter revealed that the Loot Boxes will be found in the Battle Pass, as well as earned through weekly rewards. So players who are there to enjoy it for free and those who want the paid experience will all get to have these boxes. We don’t yet know whether these will be rewarded based on progression. More information will be available once the update has come out.
But is the reintroduction of this Loot Box system worth it? We first saw it in the original game, and now it is receiving mixed emotions from the community. Unfortunately, there is no way to point out whether it will be a success or a failure yet. But one thing we think the team wanted to do was to bring back a feature that also felt nostalgic to the original player base. So, if they have a good memory of Overwatch, they will probably connect it to Overwatch 2 as well. However, it’s important to note that the game remains fundamentally the same.
In conclusion, those who are looking forward to returning to Overwatch 2 because of all the other updates they are bringing with Season 15 should do so. But if you are only returning for the Loot Box, you may want to reconsider your decision.
