5 Characters That Are Unlikely To Release in Marvel Rivals

Given the vast Marvel universe, many characters may never be released in the Marvel Rivals roster. Here is a small list that we feel will probably never show up.

Marvel Rivals released numerous overpowered characters in the game’s original roster. In fact, one can argue that all the characters on the roster feel powerful on their own. However, some of them have to be nerfed to be put there. For example, if Adam Warlock hadn’t been stripped of his ability to fly, he might have been a problematic character to encounter in the game, given his damage and healing capabilities.

Some characters, however, just seem incomprehensible to have in a 6v6 hero game. It might take so much work to balance them, because of which the developer may not release them into the roster ever. The term balance here goes for both strong and weak characters who are unlikely to appear in the future. So, a comic book character that will be hard to buff or nerf was considered for this list.

NOTE: The list presented below represents the writer’s opinions and is not “official”. Additionally, the list is not ranked in any manner.

Characters That May Never Release in Marvel Rivals

The list of heroes that I think we will never get to see in NetEase Games’ latest hero shooter goes as follows:

  • Silver Surfer
  • Mysterio
  • Quicksilver
  • War Machine
  • Mystique

There are many characters that I feel could have been on this list. But these picks seem worthy of priority for specific reasons.

1) Silver Surfer

The Fantastic Four’s suffering began when Marvel was creating the rogue gallery for all the heroes. They didn’t let their first superhero family slide. Marvel creators ensured that these four faced those “Avengers-level threats” on a regular weekend. This is why I think Silver Surfer would be too much to handle in Marvel Rivals. His body can withstand a lot of damage, he can fly (or surf) at incredible speed, and not to forget, he can also break into Invisible Woman‘s invisible force fields. I think the devs will have a hard time balancing the character for the roster, and they will just prefer to leave him out of it.

2) Mysterio

If there is one villain from Spider-Man’s list that I would like to see in Marvel Rivals is Mysterio. Unfortunately, though, I don’t think that is possible at all. Mysterio often claims to be the “Master of Illusions”. This means if you are fighting him, chances are, you actually aren’t. He is somewhat like Loki, but the difference is that Mysterio makes up whole dramatic scenarios to fight his enemies.

His powers make up for great set-pieces in movies like Spider-Man Far From Home or games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but he will give devs a hard time in a multiplayer game like Marvel Rivals.

3) Quicksilver

One of Magneto‘s children, Scarlet Witch, is already in Marvel Rivals. However, things are not looking so good for Quicksilver. Pietro Django Maximoff is a speedster and a pretty fast one at that. If you have watched any of the X-Men movies with Evan Peters’ portrayal of the hero, you would know exactly what we mean when we put this hero on the list of characters who are unlikely to be released in Marvel Rivals.

The developers will have to compromise a lot of his speed to fit him into the roster. In fact, speedsters are so hard to manage in video games that there hasn’t been an effective portrayal of them in any game so far!

4) War Machine

To be clear, War Machine is on the list considering if he is introduced as a Vanguard, not a Duelist. Since he will be a combination of how Iron Man and The Punisher play in Marvel Rivals, he probably wouldn’t bring a lot to the table as a Duelist. Also, the sheer size of his mech-suit suggests that he will be better off as a Vanguard.

Here’s the thing, though: a flying tank would be too difficult to take down because he can deliver a lot of damage while also being tough to bring down. This is probably the reason why we don’t already have a flying Vanguard. Someone like the Iron Monger would be easier to balance as a Vanguard since he is too slow compared to Iron Man and War Machine and won’t be able to fly for prolonged periods like Doctor Strange.

5) Mystique

Mystique’s mutant abilities allow her to shapeshift into a person to copy their voice and scent while also getting access to their memories and experiences to some extent. This ability seems to fit in Marvel Rivals because Loki can already do it as his Ultimate. However, the problem is that this is kind of a “cooldown ability” that wouldn’t require so much recharge to be an Ultimate.

Moreover, she can’t mimic anybody’s powers, meaning her primary way of landing a kill is through a gun or any other weapon. This is why she wouldn’t be an ideal fit on the roster and would require a lot of fundamental changes to her character for her to become a fun-to-play hero.
