WB Games just canceled the upcoming Wonder Woman game and shut down several studios. Read this article to learn more about this shocking news.

Warner Bros. Games has decided to shut down Monolith, Player First, and WB Games San Diego. The main reason behind this step is that WB Games is having financial difficulties. Monolith Productions developed Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, which was famous for its Nemesis system. Moreover, the studio was developing an upcoming Wonder Woman game that had the same system.
However, according to some reports, the original director of the game left the project in 2024. This led to a complete reboot of the Wonder Woman game. Many people around the globe are shocked after learning about this, and so are we.
In this article, we are going to talk about the canceled Wonder Woman game as well as the WB Games update.
Why Was Wonder Woman Game Canceled?

The main reason behind these drastic decisions is that WB Games is trying to restructure its gaming division. They want to focus on major IPs, such as Batman, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and Harry Potter. Monolith Productions announced a Wonder Woman game during The Game Awards in 2021.
However, there is not much information regarding the development of the game. Moreover, after the failure of MultiVersus and the Suicide Squad game, WB lost around $300 million. The company decided to shut down Player First, the developers behind MultiVersus, as well as Monolith and WB Games San Diego.
Monolith Productions was founded in 1994 and was acquired by WB Games in 2004. Under WB, they created the famous F.E.A.R. series and the Middle-earth duology. It is quite sad that a studio that developed the game-changing Nemesis system had to shut down in the process of restructuring.
Here’s the statement that WB Games made regarding the studios:
“We have had to make some very difficult decisions to structure our development studios and investments around building the best games possible with our key franchises -– Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and Game of Thrones. After careful consideration, we are closing three of our development studios – Monolith Productions, Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. This is a strategic change in direction and not a reflection of these teams or the talent that consists within them.”
The company also mentioned the Wonder Woman game by saying:
“The development of Monolith’s Wonder Woman videogame will not move forward. Our hope was to give players and fans the highest quality experience possible for the iconic character, and unfortunately this is no longer possible within our strategic priorities. This is another tough decision, as we recognize Monolith’s storied history of delivering epic fan experiences through amazing games. We greatly admire the passion of the three teams and thank every employee for their contributions. As difficult as today is, we remain focused on and excited about getting back to producing high-quality games for our passionate fans and developed by our world class studios and getting our Games business back to profitability and growth in 2025 and beyond.”
