Learn where to find the elusive Gravid Bowfin to complete the Fishing for Flavor side quest in Monster Hunter Wilds.

While catching Aquatic Life creatures is a relaxing activity in Monster Hunter Wilds, it is also mandatory to complete certain quests like Kanya’s fishing questline. After completing the ‘Seeking the Goldenfish’ side quest, Kanya sends you on another fishing quest called ‘Fishing for Flavor.’ However, this time, she tasks you with catching one of the rarest fishes in the game—the Gravid Bowfin.
The Gravid Bowfin has a low spawning rate compared to most other fishes, making it one of the more challenging catches. If you spent hours searching for it, here are some tips and tricks. Follow along to know where to find Gravid Bowfin in Monster Hunter Wilds and how to catch it.

Gravid Bowfin Location in Monster Hunter Wilds
Gravid Bowfin is native to every region of the game—Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest, Oilwell Basin, Iceshard Cliffs, and Ruins of Wyveria. However, this doesn’t mean catching the elusive fish is easy. Rather, it is one of the toughest fishes to catch due to its low spawning rate and lack of responsiveness to baits.
While Gravid Bowfin has a chance to spawn in almost all regions, some specific spots have a higher spawn rate than others—especially the river near Scarlet Forest base and the Oasis in Area 13 of the Windward Plains. It is also recommended to set up a pop-up camp near the Area 13 Oasis at Windward Plains. This allows you to fast-travel between these two locations quickly, which resets the fish spawns and maximizes your chance of locating a Gravid Bowfin.
How To Catch Gravid Bowfin in Monster Hunter Wilds

Gravid Bowfin can be identified by its distinct reddish-orange color and big head. It looks similar to the Virid Bowfin, which has a green coloration. If you have spotted a Gravid Bowfin at any of the water sources, take out your fishing rod and cast it towards the fish. It is recommended to catch the other fish in the area first, as they interrupt your attempt.
Gravid Bowfins are attracted to the Emerald Jitterbait, which you will receive from Kanya during the ‘Seeking the Goldenfish’ quest. Use the Emerald Jitterbait bait to lure the fish. Be mindful of your casting distance—avoid throwing the bait too close or too far from the fish. Jiggle the bait up and down, as well as right and left, slowly to attract Gravid Bowfin. Once it bites the bait, reel it in by pressing R2 (PS5), RT (Xbox), or Left Mouse Button (PC) to catch the fish.
Report back to Kanya to complete the quest and receive three Jeweled Mullet Roe, five honey, and 100 Guild Points. While you can also catch the fish with a capture net, doing so will not count toward quest progression. That’s it! Best of luck on your Gravid Bowfin hunt.
