In Monster Hunter Wilds, once you finish the main campaign and also cover a good majority of the endgame, there’s barely anything left to do besides “fashion hunting.” As you go through High Rank, you will unlock a host of armor sets/pieces, which you can mix and match to come up with some really cool builds.

But did you know you can also change the color of said armor pieces? Yes, in Monster Hunter Wilds, changing the color of the armor sets is not only possible but also free of charge. However, as most things in Monster Hunter games go, the game does a very poor job of explaining or even showcasing this incredibly vital cosmetic feature.

Here’s everything you need to know about changing armor color in Monster Hunter Wilds, how to do it, limitations, and more.

The ability to switch armor color is given to you right from the get-go in Monster Hunter Wilds. Essentially, once you unlock, i.e., craft an armor piece, you can freely change its color. And unlike Layered Armor, this applies to both Low Rank and High Rank armor sets. The only limitations to this rule are the pre-order and Deluxe Edition exclusive Layered Armor sets.

Apart from those two sets, any other armor piece that you craft in-game can be color-switched. Also, similarly to Monster Hunter World, changing your armor’s color doesn’t cost a single Zenny. To change the color of your armor set, simply head to one of the Pop-up or Base Camps, and head to the Equipments tab.

You will find the option to change color right under the tab that allows you to use Layered Armor. Here are the steps to change armor color in Monster Hunter Wilds:

  • Head to a Pop-up or Base Camp.
  • Select Equipment Appearance under the Appearance Menu tab.
  • Select the piece of armor that you want to change the color of.
  • Move the cursor to the blocks adjacent to the armor visibility slider.
  • Select the color you want for your armor.

You can choose colors for each of the equipped armor pieces individually. Or, you can choose to apply a universal color setting across all the pieces. Simply tap Triangle or Y (on PlayStation or Xbox controllers, respectively) to get the option to apply color settings to all armor pieces.

The armor color switch also applies to Layered Armor. Furthermore, you can also save different color Layered Armor loadouts as well. To do so, simply press L3 or LS (on PlayStation or Xbox controllers, respectively) to register your Layered Armor loadout. Additionally, you can also switch the color of the Palico’s armor sets.
