The Souls series earns renown and praise for its challenging yet fair boss fights, which feel incredibly rewarding. However, even among these fights, some outliers are brutally difficult in all the wrong ways. These fights made players complain about the sheer unfair difficulty, and many of them made their complaints known online. So, here are 5 unfair Souls bosses that made the Souls community take up arms online.

1. Laurence, The First Vicar

Found in The Old Hunters expansion, Laurence is pretty much the Cleric Beast on fire, with some extra new moves. The issue with Laurence is the fact that he provides next to no openings to counterattack after dodging. This breaks the formula that FromSoftware is known for and makes the fight frustrating. Additionally, his damaging and frustrating second phase make the fight even more unfun.

In that phase, he constantly uses a fire AoE attack, making maneuvering around him difficult and tedious.

2. Malenia, Blade of Miquella

The iconic Malenia is a Demigod boss that you encounter in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree, in Elden Ring. This fight became infamous for being the most unfair fight FromSoftware had ever made. While her healing factor and damage are bearable, the biggest problem is the Waterfowl Dance. This attack is almost impossible to dodge without using defensive Ashes of War or Greatshields. This attack alone made many players believe that Malenia is an unfair boss.

3. Godskin Duo

Godskin Duo is one instance where players could not find any openings to counterattack. The reason is that both of the Godskin bosses cover up each other’s openings and relentlessly rush the player down. The only viable strategy was using the Sleep effect on them or summoning the Mimic Tear. These factors made players believe that this fight was completely unfair and poorly designed.

4. Promised Consort Radahn

Promised Consort Radahn is the final boss of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. This fight is one of the rare instances where FromSoftware nerfed one of their bosses. The reason is that this fight was crushingly difficult for all the wrong reasons. Radahn had swings that were completely unavoidable. Players either had to create proper spacing or guard, as rolling was not an option. Additionally, the damage that Radahn dealt in the second phase was very overpowered.

FromSoftware realized their mistake and promptly nerfed this fight in a follow-up patch.

5. Bed of Chaos

Bed of Chaos is arguably the worst Souls fight ever made, for many reasons. This fight is just one big jump puzzle in a game where jump puzzles do not work. Players were undeniably frustrated when they kept plummeting to their deaths while trying to jump to the boss. As this fight has no moveset, no hype moments, and is just one big puzzle, many fans considered it the worst and most unfair Souls fight.
