Zoh Shia is arguably the most challenging new monster in Monster Hunter Wilds’ first title update. This shouldn’t come as a surprise since it’s meant to be the “true final boss” of the game. While we did get to confront the Construct at the finale of the Low Rank campaign, we never got any associated gear to craft after defeating the Low Rank variant of the monster.

However, that all changes with Title Update 1. The High Rank version of Zoh Shia not only comes with a dedicated armor set but also weapons for all 14 categories. However, given that we already have access to pretty good weapons in the endgame, are the Zoh Shia variants even worth crafting?

Furthermore, how do the Zoh Shia weapons stack up against the Arkveld—and most importantly—the Artian weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds? Let’s find out.

Much like Arkveld, the Zoh Shia weapons come with Dragon affinity as well as a decent amount of raw damage. Furthermore, these weapons also come with 5% Affinity, which can be helpful for builds that focus on skills like Critical Boost, Maximum Might, and Critical Element.

However, the primary reason you would want to craft a Zoh Shia weapon is for the perk (Equipment Skill) — Whiteflame Torrent. The Whiteflame Torrent skill is exclusive to Zoh Shia’s weapons. The skill activates automatically after landing a couple of hits using a Zoh Shia weapon. Upon activation, the Whiteflame Torrent skill increases the raw damage output.

Furthermore, when used with the Scorcher skill (Level 1), Whiteflame Torrent adds extra Fire damage upon activation. With faster weapons like the Dual Blades, Charge Blade, Bow, and Sword and Shield, the skill has a much higher activation chance. However, it also activates quite frequently for weapons like the Great Sword and the Switch Axe. While the additional Fire damage is a great bonus, the increased raw damage output is where the skill excels, making crafting a Zoh Shia weapon worth it.

Due to the Whiteflame Torrent skill, you essentially get two elemental bonuses within the same weapon. This sets the Zoh Shia weapons apart from any other weapons in the game. Furthermore, the Zoh Shia weapons are also a great choice as a simple raw and Dragon elemental option. While these weapons don’t have the incredibly high raw damage values of the Artian or Arkveld options, they do offer bonuses that you might find useful for your build.

Are Zoh Shia Weapons Better Than Artian Weapons?

Despite the Whiteflame Torrent skill and the Affinity bonus, the Zoh Shia weapons aren’t necessarily a great alternative to the Artian weapons. However, depending on your build and choice of Decorations, you might find more use out of the Zoh Shia armaments over the Artian ones. It should be noted that, much like the other Rarity 8 weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds, Zoh Shia weapons only come with one Level-3 Decoration slot.

If you’re going for the maximum damage/efficiency build, it’s best to stick with the Artian weapons. Not only do you get three Level-3 Decoration slots, but the Artian weapons also allow you to choose between raw and Affinity.

Additionally, with the Artian weapons, you can also choose between all the available elemental and status ailments. However, with the Zoh Shia weapons, you’re locked to Dragonblight, which, despite being effective against Zoh Shia, Arkveld, and even Mizutsune, isn’t effective against all monsters in the game.

Additional Notes

Capcom has already confirmed that Layered Weapons are coming to Monster Hunter Wilds. As such, even if you don’t plan on using the Zoh Shia weapons, it’s still worth crafting them.
