Gunplay is the most important aspect in any of the games in the Borderlands series, including the upcoming Borderlands 4. Sony’s Borderlands 4 State of Play revealed to us many new mechanics and changes coming to the game on September 12, 2025, and a major part of it was explaining the new loot system.

Manufacturers are a major aspect when it comes to gunplay in Borderlands. Each company is uniquely different due to how its manufactured gun tends to operate. Players in the community had long debates on which manufacturer is the best. However, it all boils down to your playstyle.

In Borderlands 4, we can see many known manufacturers coming back again, along with some new ones. Here they are:

  • Jakobs – They make traditional elemental firearms. Their guns usually have a low firing rate but can pack a mean punch.

  • Maliwan – They are at the zenith of elemental weapon manufacturing because it is the only type of weapon they make. Their weapons boast high damage with reduced reload speed.

  • Vladof – If you like guns with high fire rates, then you are going to love their weapons. However, a higher fire rate results in a very low accuracy.

  • Tediore – Their guns boast extremely high reload speed. There also seems to be a unique reloading mechanism in Borderlands 4.

  • Torque – Famous for their explosive weapons.

  • Order – A new manufacturer with a new chargeable weapon that can shoot powered-up shots.

  • Ripper –  Another new manufacturer showcasing fully automatic weapons that can mow down enemies.

  • Daedalus – Final manufacturer with weapons that can use multiple ammo types.

With so many options that players can obtain as loot, they are bound to enjoy the combat in Borderlands 4.

In the State of Play, the developers also revealed a completely overhauled loot system. Borderlands 3 has a problem with the frequency of legendary weapons, which lessens the significance of their rarity. However, in Borderlands 4, they heard community feedback and revamped the drop rate to make legendary loot much more unique. The legendary weapons will have effects that you won’t find on any other gear.

Lastly, Borderlands 4 is introducing missions and boss replay, which means you can now experience the story and grind for loot without needing to reload your save files. You can return to the area named Arena and use Moxxi’s Big Encore machine to play another run. This addition is going to make the looting aspect of the game much easier and more enjoyable for all the players.
