It has been years since a mainline Persona game came out. If you’re still craving a fix, then The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is your dose. The anime-inspired game is available on PC and Nintendo Switch. Those looking for on-the-go gaming can also run it on a Steam Deck.

The game’s narrative involves 15 students who are tasked with defending a school from grotesque monsters for 100 days. The game has over 100 endings, and your decisions ultimately shape the story.

The title has turn-based combat and combines gameplay elements from titles like Persona, Danganronpa, and Scarlet Nexus. If you’re new to the turn-based RPG genre, the mechanics of the game might feel overwhelming to you.  We’re here to assist you, as this guide will delve into how you can unlock new teammates and make your battles easier.

Just like other Kazutaka Kodoka’s games, you’ll get to see a lively group of teenagers, but only three are willing to fight.  The first three include Takemaru the Biker, Darumi, an emo girl, and Hiruko, the combat expert girl. The first day, you’ll get to fight as these three, and Takumi and your teammate list will be changing as the story goes on.

Some of the characters in your team will end up leaving or going missing, while others will join the fight. This will give you a chance to learn every teammate’s combat effectiveness, playstyle, and game mechanics to fight the invaders.

Key characters are unlocked during the game’s boss battles, arriving to save your team from danger. Once you unlock enough characters, it’s best to stick to a combat style with a mix of offense and defense. Most of the characters are good at offense, but you’ll get defense and support characters later.

Some Things You Should Know About Unlocking Teammates in the Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy

As you unlock more teammates, you’ll have a wave of enemies dedicated to learning the new teammates’ mechanics. Your team mascot will throw you some information about how the new character fights in a dialogue scene before you play as them. So if you unlock new teammates between waves in battle, you’ll need to use them in the upcoming wave. This is designed to make you familiar with the new character before mastering it.

Another thing you should know is that not every teammate will be available for every fight. This is because the narrative might not need them to be in the picture or will sideline them. We recommend that you learn to be capable of using every character by spending your character’s Free Time doing extra battles.

As the combat gets tougher as the game’s narrative progresses, you’ll need to rely on certain teammates and effectively use whoever is available. Mastering every teammate’s strengths and weaknesses and using them to your strategy is crucial in The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy.
