In this guide, we explain how you can get your hands on some Eternal Ice in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 and what its uses are.
In Clair Obscur Expedition 33, you’ll run into a few friendly faces on your journey. These NPCs won’t be out for your blood and may even help you on your way to the Paintress. One of these allied groups is the Grandis. While you’ll meet a few in your time playing, only one of them will trade with you.
But before you can get a look at the products the Grandis Merchant has to offer, you’ll need to retrieve a special item for him, dubbed Eternal Ice. Since the game doesn’t hold your hand, you’ll need to figure out where you can find it. Fortunately for you, this guide details how you can get Eternal Ice in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 and why you should bring it back to the friendly Grandis Merchant.
How To Find Eternal Ice in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
There’s only one way to get Eternal Ice in the game, which is to fight and defeat the boss named Gargant. You’ll find Gargant in the Frozen Hearts region. Follow the steps mentioned below to reach Gargant easily.
- Step 1: Exit Monoco’s Station and pass the Carousel while heading east. You’ll soon find the entrance to the Frozen Heart region.
- Step 2: Enter the region to find a rest flag. From here, keep to the left until you reach a cave. Get inside.
- Step 3: Use the rope inside the cave to climb up and reach the Glacial Falls rest flag.
- Step 4: Fight or move past the two fire enemies nearby to reach another rope that takes you up.
- Step 5: Up here, you’ll run into two Fire Danseuse enemies. Past them, use the grappling point to get on the other side.
- Step 6: Keep climbing until you reach the cliffside and see an entrance to a station.
- Step 7: Go past the Iced Heart rest flag inside the station and head up using the train wreck. And, right here, you’ll find Gargant.
Gargant has fire and ice stances. When he’s in the fire stance, he’ll be weak to ice attacks, and he’ll rejuvenate health with fire-based ones. In his ice stance, he’ll be weak to fire but strong against ice attacks. Keep in mind that Gargant will change stances when he’s attacked by one or the other elements. For instance, if he’s in the ice stance and you attack with a fire attack, his stance will change to fire, and vice versa.
Defeating Gargant gives you the Eternal Ice item, alongside Pictos and some Grandiose Chroma Catalysts.

How To Use Eternal Ice in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
After getting the Eternal Ice, you’ll need to take it back to the Grandis Merchant near the entrance to Monoco’s Station. Giving the item to the merchant will unlock more items in his shop that you can buy. These include:
- New Pictos, such as Greater Rush, Burning Shots, Energizing Death, and Survivor
- New weapons, such as Grandaro, Coldum, and Cultam
