The game starts with Gustave in Lumiere saying farewell to Sophie as she dies at the age of 33. Clair Obscur Expedition 33 has a unique take on death and expeditioners must find a way to end this curse. The Paintress is relentless and has an army of monsters at her disposal, making things worse for expeditioners. The story is divided into different locations that send you on a large-scale adventure.

Some zones are massive, and you can find rare resources to improve your stats and loadout. These are all the primary locations on the Continent where the story gets unraveled:

First Act

  • Lumiere (Prologue)
  • Spring Meadows
  • Flying Waters
  • Ancient Sanctuary
  • Gestral Village
  • Esquie’s Nest
  • Stone Wave Cliffs

Second Act

  • Forgotten Battlefield
  • Monoco’s Station
  • Old Lumiere
  • Visages
  • Sirene
  • The Monolith

Third Act

  • Lumiere
  • The Manor (Epilogue)

The main story is divided into three acts, and we recommend you follow the storyline and do not proceed to the main objective immediately. Optional areas are worth exploring, and they can lead to fruitful rewards. Each location will slowly open up, and we recommend you keep checking and setting aside the next main objective.

Smaller locations will be accessible between acts and missions; however, some require additional abilities like flight for the Flying Casino. If you are overwhelmed, you can take it slow, but avoid points of no return. Exploring optional areas will enable you to pick up collectibles like outfits, records, and many more.

The campaign has a decent length, but it could take you longer if you plan to visit every area. Prepare to solve puzzles take on powerful foes hiding in each zone, and gather what you can to improve your party.
