Is The Precinct Playable on Older GPUs Like GTX 1060?

The system requirements of The Precinct are not high, but users with older GPUs like the Nvidia GTX 960 or 1060 are unsure if the game runs well.

The Precinct is a new action-adventure title where you are a police officer in charge of stopping crime and protecting the city. The game released on May 13, 2025, and became quite popular among gamers. In fact, The Precinct has around 1,900 positive reviews out of 83.48% positive ratings on Steam, which shows players are quite happy with the game.

However, users with older GPUs like the Nvidia GTX 960, GTX 1060, or AMD Radeon RX 580 are unsure if the game will run well on their system. The short answer is yes, they can indeed play The Precinct, but there’s a lot more to it.

In this article, we will examine various benchmarks and explain how well the older GPUs can actually run The Precinct decently.

Everything You Need To Know To Play The Precinct on Older GPUs

1) Nvidia GTX 1060

The Nvidia GTX 1060 was released in 2016, making it almost nine years old in 2025. This GPU was made available in two variants: 3GB memory and 6GB memory. Both variants deliver decent 50–60 FPS performance at 1080p Low settings. However, if you play the game at 1080p with Very High graphics settings, you will get only around 30 FPS. At least, that’s what the benchmarks from the REDLINE GAMING YouTube channel show. However, they were testing an older version of the game, so the performance could be improved in the released version.

The 6GB memory variant of the GTX 1060 can run the game with Medium graphics settings, which is certainly an advantage that the 3GB variant can’t do well. If you want a higher FPS or locked 60 FPS experience, you can turn on FSR, and the framerates will get there.

2) Nvidia GTX 960

The Nvidia GTX 960, being a very old card, can only play The Precinct at 1080p Low with FSR Balanced settings for a 30–50 FPS experience. The FPS is not very stable. It can reach 50 FPS but often drops to around 30 in some scenarios. The benchmarks available online also show a similar result. However, anything above 30 FPS is easily playable, so there’s nothing to worry about.

3) AMD Radeon RX 580

The AMD Radeon RX 580 is equivalent to the Nvidia GTX 1060 or even faster in some games, so you will have no issues achieving 60 FPS at 1080p Medium graphics settings. This level of performance was also shown in a video from the Potato Benchmarks YouTube channel.

Final Thoughts

It is clear that older GPUs like the Nvidia GTX 960, GTX 1060, or AMD Radeon RX 580 can easily play The Precinct, even if it is at 30 FPS. Besides, with features like FSR upscaling, the framerate can reach even higher, which is certainly great news.
